Anyone try CLA for weight control? It has been reported that in blind/placebo tests done recently, those taking the CLA lost an average of six pounds in a twelve week period, compared to those on the placebo who lost nothing. It is suppose to reset the metabolism??

Not so sure I believe there's anything that can magically reset the metabolism. Otherwise, why wouldn't Dr. L. have mentioned it?

Edit: I googled it and here's what I got off a bottle from vitacost.com (this is where I get all my vitamins).

Safe and effective weight loss aid containing no harmful stimulants. Studies show that it may increase lean muscle and reduce the amount of fat stored in body.
NSI Tonalin® XS-CLA™ is a clinically proven and patented conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) formula. CLA is a naturally occurring fatty acid, derived from safflower seeds (a premium dietary source of CLA). Studies have shown that CLA inhibits lipoprotein lipase, an enzyme that breaks down fat from our diet so that it can be absorbed and stored in the body. By suppressing this enzyme, CLA helps reduce the amount of fat deposited and stored throughout the body. Each NSI Tonalin XS-CLA softgel features clinically proven and stimulant-free Tonalin, containing 72-82% CLA, up to 35% higher than other brands.

Now, the really funny thing, to me, is that for a very long time, I took a safflower seed supplement. I have the bottle right here. It's called "Tonalin - XS-CLA" (same as in the description above, but I always just knew it as Tonalin). A year after taking it, I'm still diagnosed with a sluggish metabolism. So, I would have to say ixnay on the CLA...

LyndaB - would you be kind enough to ask Dr. L. what he thinks about CLA and if there is a connection between fatty acid and the liver enzymes.

Unfortunately, I live in a remote area and do not have access to anyone like your Dr. L.

I gave CLA a try. I took it for about three months (just finished up last week) It did ABSOLUTELY nothing.... in fact I put on a few pounds. It's an expensive supplement as well.

My doctor told me not to take it after getting back the results of my bloodwork. Seems my liver enzymes are too high due to a medication I was taking and I am guessing he cannot monitor the liver function correctly if taking CLA. I believe it works (or does not work) by affecting the lipoprotien lipase in relation to fat absorbtion and this is the job the healthy liver should be doing??
