My SBD experiance

Heya folks...nice little community here...my story is as such.

A few months ago my doctor found that I had high liver enzymes in a blood test. So after many other tests and an ultrasound it was determined to be fatty liver (nonalcoholic stereohepititus I belive is the big name for it).

So the second opinion doctor (actually I knew this already but it makes them feel good to tell you) suggested that I was overweight and drank too much and should quit smoking. I guess I had realised over the past few years that my eating habits and drinking habits are bad and should change. At this point I was 6 foot tall and weighed 240 according to the scale at the doctors. They wanted me to lose approx. 30 pounds by the next check up in april.

A coworker loaned me the SBD book and my wife and I read through and I liked what I read. My family has a history of heart problems and diabetes so I figured this diet was designed for me.

Started phase one and picked up an exercise bike and did pretty good...some things we had in phase one would probably be considered cheating but I'm a picky eater and alot of what was in the menu I wouldn't eat.

I'm now 3 days into phase 2 and am down to 221 or so. That almost 20 pounds in 3 weeks! I'm impressed with how things it going. I think alot of it was just looking at what I ate and changing it to something better. I still "cheat" but not enough to stall me for too long.

Hope I can get down enough for the appointment.

That’s such a great story. I know a lot of people use SBD as a way to fit into an old pair of jeans, so it’s refreshing to see someone use it for it’s original intention. I’m sure your blood chemistry is getting better as we speak!

Kudos to you!

Thanks...I'm sure I'll find out in the next few weeks when I get my labs done again. I'll keep the boards updated on my status.

Every year my workplace offers "wellness" checks for free. It includes fasting glucose, cholesterol levels, blood pressure and BMI as well as testing for "fitness", flexibility, etc. This is the first year I've signed up. I'm actually excited to see where my numbers are at. I think I may be able to prove that "fat chicks" can be healthier than lots of skinny folks! I don't do the check up until the end of March and have to do my lab work at least 2 weeks before then. Can't wait for all of my results!

Sorry I haven't updated this in awhile...life has been busy.

I got my labs done and had my follow up visit with the doctor. My highest liver test result back before I started the diet was 124 or so (not sure which of the three numbers it was) and when I had my blood test done before the doctors visit it was 45. So I did it...I got my weight down by more than 30 lbs on the south beach diet and feel better overall. Plus my body is now working to correct its self chemically. I'm still slowly losing weight now that I'm on phase three but not a whole lot (which I didn't expect to lose much more)

From the end of January to now I've dropped 35 or so pounds and 2 sizes in my waist.
