| Hello. I'm new here, and please dont get offended by my post. I am post op of Open RnY. I'm 4 weeks out. My doctor recommends that I follow the SB diet eating plan and reciepes. So I was wondering if there is any other WLSers out there? |

I had my gastric bypass in 1988. It worked great, I went from 310 lbs down to 118 as my lowest. But its been several years since then and I've managed to have 2 babies in that time. I've put back on some of that weight, but I've taken it off again.....2 or 3 times. I know one thing for sure and that is that I can't do the surgery again if I get that heavy again. So when I see myself getting close to that 200 mark I freak. It's a funny thing how I was unable to lose the weight on my own back then and how now I can do it once I set my mind to it.
Good Luck to you, I had 6 months worth of trouble after my surgery with dehydration and needing to have a baloon shoved down my throat 9 times to have my stomach opened back up. I hope you don't go through any of that. But then its been 17 years since I had mine so I'm sure medical science has gotten some of the "bugs" out. |

| G-G, I'm sorry that you feel that you have to appologize for having had gastric bypass surgery. For some people (my husband included), it's the only way to lose weight. However "mainstream" dieters often feel that you have taken the easy way out. Well, I know better! I've seen my husband's struggle! My husband is 10 months out and has lost 150 pounds. He doesn't follow SB, but he does eat very simmilar to the way we are told too. He eats lots of protein & veggies, and tries to eat only whole grain breads and pastas. He also limits his sugar and fat intake to less than 10 grams each per meal. Hope this helps! -DG :D |

| I had gastric bypass in May '01, lost 100 lbs but have gained back almost 20! YIKES! So, I started SB and I've lost 7 of that. I guess once in awhile us WLS'rs have to relearn how to use our "tool" and get back on track. |

| :( My aunt had it done and she's had a lot of medical problems ever sense. She is anemic because of the small amount of food she has to eat and now suffers from low blood sugar from such little amounts of food. Also she has a vitamin deficiency and has also had to have her gall bladder removed. I'm sure she's not suppose to be drinking a lot of alcohol like she's doing either. |

Hi! I am using SB to lose weight so I can have the adjustable gastric band. My surgeon wants me to lose 40 pounds before he will ok the surgery. So far, I have lost 15 in one month. This next 25 is going to be the hardest, though. As I near my goal for pre-surgery, I am thinking again of all the foods I won't be able to have for the weeks until I get approval to eat real food again and I know it will wear on me.
I have some of the protein shakes, I plan to use those for lunches and maybe even breakfast this next week. Hopefully that will get me in a better place.
I can see how SB has already helped me. I am not able to eat as much as I was at one sitting. I really don't enjoy anything that is too fatty. For instance, I had a burger from Sonic the other day and I could barely finish it, it was too greasy.
As for someone with gastric bypass using SB, I think you would do well with it. From what I have read about SB and what I have read about RNY, they do seem to fit together.
Good luck on your journey!!! |
