Hi anyone who reads this hehehe! :D I have about 18 pounds to lose and gain most of my weight on my upper body, face and waist. I just quit the South Beach diet because it was not working for me at all. I started 7 days ago Phase 1 and didn't lose a single pound, actually I think I gained 1 pound. I am soooo dissapointed and fustrated because I feel like I wasted all that money on the food, time and turning down "non" southbeach food left and right while I was on the plan. I was sooooo good and didn't cheat at all, I guess either I didnt follow the plan 100% somehow or something because I dont know what I did wrong. Anyhow, i'm a vegetarian and would like a plan that would be easy for me to follow, since a lot of time I am busy and dont have time to fix meals or don't feel like it. I do love to fix dinners and such. Also I dont have lots of money to buy lots of different ingredients, and a plan that might work my body type would be fantastic! I was thinking maybe doing the slim fast diet for breakfeast and lunch having a snack of low fat string cheese or something within or under 100 cals and for dinner having a low carb dinner, like veggie curry with tofu NO rice or something? If anyone has any suggestions they would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks so much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's too bad that you've already given up. I replied to the other thread where you asked for help-- I don't know if you saw my response:

lilybloom-- luckily you don't need to lose much weight, so probably 7 days just isn't enough time to give this way of eating to see results. Make sure you aren't thinking "low-cal"-- SB is already low in calories, so don't skip meals or snacks in order to save calories. That evening dessert (third snack) is part of the plan. You also didn't mention if you're eating your good fats and nuts every day, so be sure you're getting those in.

Too much caffeine can sabotage the weightloss process, so all the iced tea may be a bugaboo. Plain water is really important. For vegetarian suggestions, the Miz Frog's Pad website is a good resource. I don't have her addy handy, but it is in the "general" section of my p1 FAQ.

-----------

Personally, I think plans like SlimFast are a really bad idea, because they can totally ruin your metabolism and give you insulin resistance as well, which makes losing weight on a good plan like SB ten times harder. You just need to give it more time, and make sure you're doing it right. P2 is where the magic happens, and you haven't even made it there yet.

Oh, and here's a recent Daily Dish about a scientific study on diets:

New Study Supports South Beach Diet(TM) Principles

The results are in from a recent study comparing a diet following the principles of The South Beach Diet™ with a portion-controlled, low-fat diet. The study, which will be published in the journal Experimental Biology and Medicine, followed 69 overweight or obese (but otherwise healthy) men and women, ages 18 to 65, over a period of 12 weeks. This group was divided into two, with one group following a plan modeled after Phase 2 of The South Beach Diet™ and the other group following the low-fat diet. While both groups shed extra pounds over the 12 weeks, the amount and type of weight lost was remarkably different.

Participants who followed The South Beach Diet™ model lost twice as much weight as those following the portion-controlled, low-fat plan and also showed greater losses in body fat. The study also showed that the group adhering to The South Beach Diet™ principles — focusing on the right carbohydrates and fats, nutrient-dense whole foods, lean sources of protein, and lots of fiber — experienced significant reductions in triglycerides and their ratio of total/HDL cholesterol, meaning that they lowered their risk of a heart attack.

What was the most surprising revelation of all? While The South Beach Diet™ group was instructed to eat until they were satisfied, whereas the low-calorie group stuck to a strict calorie-counting system, the first group still consumed fewer calories with no counting involved. Clearly, choosing a plan with the right carbs and the right fats, such as The South Beach Diet™, is the right choice when it comes to weight loss and adopting a long-term healthy lifestyle.

:D Hi Kimboroni!! Thanks very much for the reply and the posting the info from the other response! I guess I am just dissappointed about the no weight loss, especially since just about everyone else on this site says they at least lost a little weight! I also was very stressed to see I gained about a pound!!! I went on this diet to lose weight not gain it, hehehehe. I wonder if the fact that I am vegetarian and not able to eat chicken, lean beef and seafood is causing it not to work right for me. I've been using meat subs like SB says instead. That probily has alot to do with it. I also switched to caffine free tea today. I'm not giving up my vegetariansim though, i've have been one for about 8 years so no matter what a diet I go on has to fit that. I wish there was a plan for vegetarians trying to do the Southbeach I think that would help me out big time. Like a meal plan just like the ones for meat eaters. I have problems with protien because other than tofu a lot of veggie meat has wheat gluten, just about 75 percent does and I dont really have many other options. I get confused with the whole meal plans, because I can't use the meat it calls for. Anyhow thanks once again for your all the info and your time, take care!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D

Did you go look at Miz Frog's Pad? She has a whole thing about doing SB vegetarian. It's really good-- SB can totally be done that way, whereas Atkins really isn't geared that direction at all.

I'm going to try to find something for you: Dateline's Weightloss Challenge II's most successful dieter did a vegetarian plan that sounded very much like a veggie SB in the way they described it-- lots of veggies, fruits, whole grains, etc. I don't know if she followed a certain book or website in order to do the plan. That's what I'll try to find.

Okay, here's a link about it, and within that story it gives a recipe resource:
