If I may chime in here...

I have been bulimic, borderline anorexic and morbidly obese (but obviously not all at the same time). I'm now in my late 40s and am fitter and thinner than I have ever been in my entire life. And I intend to become even fitter and thinner!

For many years, I used to fast to control my weight, going for up to 15 days at a time with no food whatsoever. I'm not bragging, just stating a fact. It worked... kind of... up to a point... in the short-term. But I eventually realised I was just screwing up my metabolism. As sakwin said:

Quote: I wish someone had been around to tell me what Lynda and the others are trying to tell you. You may get super skinny by not eating, but it *will* catch up with you in the future, and it will be even harder to lose it again. Eventually, that trick won't work anymore, and you'll have to find a new way to lose weight.

It's true, mortalgang. Some of us have learnt that the hard way. The way I see it, you have two choices:
1. You can spend the rest of your life struggling with, and obsessing over, your weight, hating yourself and getting nowhere OR
2. You can get real NOW and save yourself a lifetime of self-loathing and frustration.

mortalgang I think you came on the board looking for help. But you need more help than we can give you. See a dietician or nutritionist NOW.

I really worry about your health. It seems yu are not getting the nutrients you need. You are still building your bones until your early 20's then you will start to lose your bone density. Since you are eating unhealthy you could already have osteoporosis. While taking a vitamin is good, it no where gives you the nutrients you need on a daily basis. Your body will rebel as you get older as Sakwin stated. Take care of yourself.

It's very hard for me to lose weight as well. I used to pretty much starve myself thinking I would lose weight but never did. Your metabolism is very very slow and your body is probably begging you to eat a lot of protein. Without eating protein your body is using your muscle to burn and not your fat. When you workout the first thing your body does is use carbs for fuel and that is what burns first is carbs then after it uses the carbs it uses the protein which will help your muscles to work off burning the fat.

What I am trying to say here is you really need to eat a lot of protein to lose any fat. It won't matter if you are starving yourself or not. Your body type kinda sounds like mine. The fat is stubborn. The fasted way I lost weight is when I eat a lot of chicken, tuna, whey protein powder and lots of fruit and veggies and then I would work out my ass off. I swear that is what works for me. Other people are different, everyone is different.

You are a shortie like me (I'm only 5'0) and sometimes it takes us longer and harder to lose the weight. You just need to eat the RIGHT kind of foods. If you starve yourself your body is just eating your muscle away and your fat is going to stick.

I hope that helped you. My fat is just as stubborn!!!

Do you have the South Beach Diet book???? Please get it.....it will tell you what to eat for breakfast lunch and dinner and what foods to eat. I like whole wheat pit a bread w/ tuna or turkey yum!!! I also eat a lot of veggies like broccoloi, asparagus and spinach. Maybe you should go and get a blender and make smoothies w/ berries, yogurt and spinach. It's really good. Good luck!!

I have fasted before for religious reasons. I have a friend who fasts for a week each year during Lent. It is certainly possible to go for a week without eating. There are healthy ways to do it, and not healthy ways.

My friend who fasts for a week does not lose any weight. She actually considers that weight loss during that week is a danger sign, letting her know that her body is not OK. When her metabolism is working as it should, her body notes "no nutrients coming in" - and starts to conserve energy dramatically to keep all essential systems functioning well. At that point, weight loss doesn't happen. If weight starts to drop, it means important body functions (like one's cardiovascular system) aren't being nourished.

I agree with LyndaB (on most things, it seems. Hmm....) - the "seeing a counselor is out of the question" is a massive huge red warning flag to me. In fact, I worry most about people who absolutely refuse to go talk to any mental health professionals. If everything's OK, a reputable counselor following social work professional ethics will say "hey, you're OK" - no worries. It's one thing to be "not interested" - but "out of the question" just seems a little strong. Why are you so opposed to just going once?

I'm 5'3" also, with a really small frame. (My 7 y/o son can put his hand around my wrist, and he's NOT a big kid at all.) I've been told by a doctor and a nutritionist to not even think about going below 125. I'm not saying you don't have fat that can be lost, but if you start eating healthy (and SBD is healthy - very healthy), don't be surprised if you replace that fat with sleek muscle, and if that makes the numbers on the scale bigger.

I sympathize with the hot dogs & hamburgers not sounding all that great. Ask your dad if it'd be OK to add some vegetables to that plate, and fill up on those!

Take care.
