I am about 120 pounds and 5'3" and looking to lose alot of weight! acouple of years ago I quit eating everything but dinner and i did, but now im eating dinner with low fat snacks, and im way up there... im just saying its rediculious that I only eat one meal a day and exercise (crunches and leg lifts) and still never lose any weight...
But I pushed myself and ended up not eating a single thing for a week, without feeling sick or anything! and it was so easy... i just made sure i wasnt around anyone with food... But I dont want to become anerexic! I just want to lose alot of weight!
Do you think that I could just have a diet of ALL grapes or somthing along that lines... and exercising a whole lot... any suggestions of what my food would be? and then be able to eat what id like on the weekends, because im miserable not eating hardly anything and not getting any results at all... I hate it... please help me |

| I will have to third that, if it's possible. At 120 and 5'3", you are already thin. When you say you need to lose a "lot of weight" how much thinner must you be? Your body is in starvation mode, hence the lack of weight loss! See a nutritionist who could help you develop a good eating plan and a healthy frame of mind. |

| I'm sorry... but there's something very fishy about the first post here. I'm just not buying that this is factual... who can go an entire week without eating? |

Whether it's real or not, you'd be surprised how far some people will go to lose the weight they think they need to. Ya never know. |

Its factual, i truthfully did... and i dont think anythings wrong with me, i am in good shape, and i was way better off in 9th grade i was alot thinner and still in great shape... i didnt eat for a week, i drank anything i wanted tho.. mabey that had somthing to do with it.. i drink alot of skim milk and sometimes grape juice *giggles* but yeah, id never went more than like 2 days without eating anything, but my boyfriend likes to tease me about my eating habbits, which upset me alot because i only eat 1 meal aday, so i thought id prove to him id go a whole week without eating and then tell him and make him feel terrible.. all i did was keep myself from looking at food at all... i just didnt put myself in position to eat, and i wasnt even hungry.. my stomach would growl alot, but i didnt feel like eating... but the truth is i told my boyfriend and he didnt even feel bad, all he said was thats stupid you should eat and then didnt say anything else about it.. so *sighs* but oh well, at least i know its possible.. but im thinking ill be fine if i eat just grapes or somthin if i take viatamons and workout alot.. and eat good on the weekends, i hope it works out for me :) ... sorry for making you guys suspicious, but now i kinda feel proud ..like i succeeded in doing somthing most people cant...
Thanks for your imput. |

mortalgang, you're not succeeding in doing something most people can't... you're succeeding in doing something most people know is ridiculous and dangerous. This is nothing to be proud of. You're screwing around with your metabolism and your general health.
Best to try to fix this while you're young... with proper nutrition, exercise and counseling, you should be on the road to a healthy life. Without it, who knows... |

mortalgang - at 120 pounds and 5'3" you don't need to lose a lot of weight. In fact you don't need to lose any weight at all.
You need 3 meals a day. Eating only 1 meal a day will slow your metabolism and make it easy for you to gain weight as you get older.
Get on a healthy eating plan now! And ignore the scale.
(Can't help but think this is falling on deaf ears)

| im 17, and if i eat more than 1 meal a day ill start gaining weight! and seeing a councler is definatley out of the question! what i dont understand is everyone says that not eating will just make you gain weight.. yet... how do people just stop eating almost all together to lose alot of weight? that just makes no sense to me.. and i think it would work for me if it can work for thiem... i know motabolism helps you lose weight, i just dont see the logic in eating more to lose weight... more motabolism or not it shouldnt make that much of a diffrence... and how does it explain my 9th grade year when i ate hardly anything and i got super skinny? this time i think i just need to make sure not to get into old habbits... someone explain what eating more would help me lose weight? |

Your body goes through tremendous changes when you are young which is why you are so much better off learning about your metabolism and how your body processes food. If you're in high school, you're certainly able to get onto the internet or go to your library and study up on your metabolism and how it all works.
And why is seeing a counselor out of the question?
And why isn't your family making sure you eat? |

As someone who was in a similar position, I'm going to chime in here.
I'm 5'6" tall, and have been since middle school. In high school, I weighed 114 lbs when I graduated my senior year, and thought I had another 10 or so to lose to reach my "perfect" weight. I didn't eat more than 1 meal a day; I just wasn't hungry. I had an incredible metabolism. I was sure that if I just lost that last 10 lbs, I'd be perfect and my then-boyfriend would love me even more for it (and stop fooling around with other girls, but that's another story entirely  ).
Fast-forward to college. My metabolism slowed down, I still didn't eat more than 1 meal a day, and I gained 20 lbs in my first year. By the time I was in my last year of college, I was suddenly 155 lbs. That's life. It happened to everyone I knew in high school...there's a reason they refer to the "Freshman 15".
When I got engaged (at 155 lbs), I was determined to lose back down for my wedding. I moved to a strict plan of no breakfast, a lean pocket for lunch, and a cup of rice with a glass of wine for dinner. Nothing else. And I lost 20 lbs over a semester.
As soon as I got married, I relaxed my diet and enjoyed life with my husband. Within a year, I was 169 lbs! I'd put back the weight I'd lost and 15 extra! I tried to go back to my rice diet, but after a month I hadn't lost a single pound. By doing South Beach, I'm down now to 152, and losing slower than I would like. But I'm *eating healthy*, and looking to the future.
We haven't seen you; we don't know what you look like. It could be that you have a small frame and could stand to lose a few pounds. It could be that you're rail thin. Maybe they're just vanity pounds. We don't know that, and can't judge. But you remind me an awful lot of myself back in high school...and I wish someone had been around to tell me what Lynda and the others are trying to tell you. You may get super skinny by not eating, but it *will* catch up with you in the future, and it will be even harder to lose it again. Eventually, that trick won't work anymore, and you'll have to find a new way to lose weight. So many science studies back this up that it's not even really arguable. It's hard to see the logic that eating more will help you weigh less...I've been struggling to get my husband to understand that, and to accept it myself. But it works.
You need to decide if it's more important to be super skinny now or healthy for the rest of your life. It's a big decision, and one that only you can make. I, and the others on this board, are here to offer advice and our own experiences, and if you have any questions at all, feel free to send me a private message or post here and we'll try to help. |

| You want to know what happens when you dont eat? Look at a picture of some starving children in some God forsaken country with their rail skinny arms and legs and BIG FAT BLOATED bellies. Is that what you are heading towards? You only get one body, you better treat it right. |
