Is the only reason why we can't have it the trans fats? Or does it somehow inhibit the weight loss?
I don't especially like margarine, and I can't seem to find the other brands your talking about (we probably don't have them in Canada yet).

No butter but Smart Balance is allowed - tastes pretty good too

Butter has no transfats that I know of. The problem with butter is the animal/saturated fats from a heart healthiness perspective. Most margarines have some amount of transfats associated with them, even those that advertise 0 gms per serving. Smart Balance is transfat free. All fats still have 9 cals/gm from a purely caloric aspect. The SB recommendations are more for overall health benefits, not just weight loss. It is more about the kinds of fats we want to use than just limiting fats. Replacing saturated fat intake with poly and monounsaturated fat intake has been shown to reduce cholesterol levels and promote better heart health.

I'm in Canada too - Not sure if you are anywhere near a Costco but they carry a no trans fats, low in saturated fat and non-hydrogenated margarine called Crystal which comes in a 3lb tub - very good and your talking to a biggg butter fan. What I have found is that since I eat little or no bread on SB (although certain ones are allowed in Phase 2) I have little need for it - i cook mainly with olive oil and use a little margarine on my steamed veggies -

And Retired, I'll be going to Costco...hopefully they'll have it here! If not, My Mum leaves in Ontario, and I'll have her pick some up for me!
