Some newbie advice about goals

I thought I'd throw out some advice for all the new and old alike. Instead of setting weight or date goals try setting percentage goals. Set your first goal for 10 percent of your current body weight (for all you former Weight Watchers members you'll recognize this goal). This way if your start weight is 150lb your 15lb goal will be just as impressive as someone's 300lb start weight/ 30lb goal. It seems like a lot of us have been comparing ourselves to others, "Why did I only lose 5 lbs when he lost 10", etc... When you look at it by percentages, your 5lb loss might be the same as a 10lb loss depending on your weight differences.

Just something to think about to keep you motivated.

Good luck everyone!

That's really smart, Jen..... Then we're not talking apples and oranges!!!

I set my goals in 5 lb increments. That way, there's more of a chance to remain optimistic because (hopefully) you're always reaching little mini goals. I still look at my final goal and think that it's so unreachable.

Now that I weigh weekly, it helps, too. Better to see 1 lb gone after a week than the daily fluctuations day in and day out. That can be a bummer. Whatever you need to do to stay positive, do it.
