Ideally, all three will be eaten together at meals. This helps keep the glycemic index as low as possible while maximizing satiety and food enjoyment. There's a really nice meal template from the SB site in my FAQ-- it should help you see how to design meals.
The higher the GI of the carb, the more important it is to eat it with something to slow sugar absorption. But proteins/fats can be eaten alone as a snack if you wish, such as nuts or cheese. I usually pair them with a carb, like crackers, an apple, or veggies.
You can lose weight on SB without exercising (many people here have!), but for optimum cardiovascular health, it's best to start doing something. But if you want to lose some weight first before you'll feel comfortable exercising, then just make the food change now. Maybe you can start exercising at some point in the future. Dr A doesn't want people to feel overwhelmed with too many changes right at first, so exercise isn't required.
I had no plans to start exercising, but after nearly a month on the plan, I had so much extra energy that I had to get moving! So I started doing some aerobic dance and NordicTrack while I watched TV. The momentum is still going strong after over a year. |
