I just started P2 and was wondering about Progresso's Carb Monitor Soup. I bought a couple cans, but now I'm not sure if I should eat them. The Chicken Vegetable has 70 cal, 2g fat, 0g sat fat, 860 mg sodium, 7g carb (<1g dietary fiber, 2g sugars), and 7g protein -- all of that times two since a can is two servings and I don't see myself eating 1/2 a can of soup. I bought the soup based on the label which said 6g net carbs. I assumed it was for the whole can till I got it home and looked closer at the label -- I know, I know, "When you assume you make an a** of U and me..."
I'm also concerned about the sodium. I've never been told by a Dr. to watch sodium, and I don't have any medical concerns about it, but DANG! that's a lot of sodium. The Beef Vegetable has 940mg -- that's 39% daily recommend amount. Times two and its nearly 80% in just one little can of soup.
Am I being paranoid for no good reason?
I wish Purina made 'People Chow', so I wouldn't have to stress so much about what I'm eating.... |

| Raygrid: I would worry about the salt, too. Just good common sense to watch the salt intake. Water retention and all that. Hang in there, maybe someone more knowledgable will answer shortly. Usually there are several on this board that know tons of stuff and they usually answer. Redroxo, Kimboroni, Recipelover to name a few. They are a fountain of knowledge. |
