I just had some DeBoles Carb Fit pasta that I got at our local natural foods storw. Had it with tomato sauce, mixed vegetables, and turkey meatballs.
Here's the rundown: Ingredients: soy concentrate, soy flour, vital wheat gluten, brown rice flour, guar gum.
1 serving, 2 oz (I think that's 1 cup cooked): 26 g protein!!! 3.5 g fats, no trans fats, 17 g carbs, 8 g fiber, 3 g sugars.
What do you think? Is the wheat gluten okay? I wasn't sure about that, but otherwise I thought the ingredients and nutrition values looked great. So much so that I wondered if, since half the calories are soy protein, could I have 1 cup and count it as only 1/2 cup of starch? |

Wheat gluten is just another protein, so it's fine.
Soy pasta is okay, but the preferred type is whole wheat to make sure you're getting enough good carbs. Please be careful that you aren't overloading your kidneys with all the protein-- this has the same amount as 4 1/3 eggs, plus you had turkey meatballs as well. That sounds like an awful lot of protein.
I don't know if most soy pasta has this much protein. It is included on the list of starches, but this particular one has very few carbs, so I'd look for something different that can still supply that important food group. |

| I have used this soybean pasta in lieu of meat combined with my whole wheat stuff and it tastes pretty good and gives you the protein without making the meal super high in it. I use about 2/3 ww pasta and 1/3 soybean. |
