First day in Phase II and I'm sleepy

Today is my first day in Phase II after 3 weeks of being in Phase I. I had my oatmeal breakfast with cinnamon and walnuts and a cup of strawberries (it was wonderful) and within a half-hour or so, I felt like I was going to fall asleep at my desk.

I can't help but wonder if my body was in shock from the reintroduction or two carbs that I had not eaten in three weeks? I stayed on Phase II for two weeks (Perfectly - no cheating whatsoever) and so I have not had any fruit, grains, etc. for a while.

Has this happened to anyone else? I'm a little worried and think that I am going to ease really slowly into Phase II by only reintroducing fruit one time a day, then grains one-a-day in the second week of Phase II.

Thoughts? Thanks for any advice you can offer!

Well that is sort of the recommended transition approach. One fruit OR grain for one week and then add-in the other and alternate in each subsequent week and see how you do. Some people also find that moving that newly added item around in the day makes a difference as well. The good news is that you are listening to your body, taking note of how new foods are affecting you and strategizing on solutions. P2, especially at first, is just a lot of experimenting and figuring out how things work for you. Sounds like you are off to a good start, even if it was a bit sleepy!

Thanks for the feedback. I really should have found this message board sooner.

It seems that somehow I missed the recommendation to add in a fruit OR a grain weekly. I simply followed the Phase II menu for Day 1 straight from the book. (I hanestly didn't read all of the chapters preceeding the diets - a mistake) Looks like I need to make a few adjustments to the recommended meals and snacks that are listed there.

At least I know that my bodies reaction may have been justified and now I can adjust accordingly. Thanks for the coaching.

Yeah, I did the same thing; following the menus in the book. I put together a thread drawing on a variety of resources that includes some of these ideas on transitioning that by and large come from the official SBD Online site via their Daily Dish newsletters which is fairly different than what is published in the book. Go figure!

Kimboroni has it linked in from her P2 FAQ page or you can find it here as well.
Advice on Transitioning to P2

That should help give you some additional strategies!
