Hi All,
I am just about over P1 (lost 9 lbs so far) and am totally scared to start phase 2. I won't have problems adding in fruits, tho i have never gone overboard on eating them, i will now ... my biggest fear, i don't like whole wheat or bran flavored anything. I am not sure what to do. I am looking forward to a bowl of cereal but am afraid of the bland taste. Not that i am craving anything specific, i just know how picky an eater i am and i'm afraid i will hate everything and be stuck in a boredom rut and want to eat things i shouldn't. I am also not a big nut eater either - tho i have been having sunflower seeds as my nuts which i love (i know a lot of people like peanut butter, but i don't even like that very much) Any suggestions? |

| i think you'll be very surprised at how your tastes have changed when you get to P2, and how things that were once bland are now not. |

| That's what i am hoping will happen - even if i don't LOVE it but can live with it i will be hapy. I never used to like diet sodas, now i find them bareable, same thing with SF jello and SF fudgiscles, but what suggestions for cereals can you offer? Are banana's okay to use to liven it up a bit? Or bread, if sourdough (which i LOVE) is okay, how are sourdough english muffins? |

I agree with Oldpjams - you're tastebuds do change, and now I'm finding most 'sweets' just too sweet to even approach (yeah!). As for suggestions:
I love Kashi Go Lean cereal - it's nice and crunchy (I'm a texture eater), with a bit of sweetness. Some people add their fruit to cereal - I prefer to have mine either on the side or as one of my snacks - just personal preference.
I belive sourdough is off-limits as it's made w/white flour. Give some of the whole grain whole wheat breads a try. There's a link somewhere - I think in Kimboroni's FAQ - with a list of approved commercial breads. You'll probably find that they too have enough sweetness for you, and they add some crunch to make them interesting (again with the texture!)
Good luck! |

| Thanks for the replies. I checked on the sourdough and the list says "sourdough (may be used, but whole grain is the best choice)" - so i am stll wondering about sourdough muffins . i am hoping every once in a while it won't hurt as long as it doesn't bother my wieght. I have been looking at breads, tortillas and all that sort ... what is "unbleached/bleached" flour? |

| i found FiberOne to be an aquired taste but now like it. same with Kashi GoLean. sometimes i'll mix in a couple of tablespoons of Kashi Crunch or Heart2Heart which we keep in the house for my son. a little bit of it makes a big difference. i won't eat any of these without berries or banana or something. to be honest, i'd rather just use any of these as a topping to fruit and yogurt or pudding or jello. |

We use frozen berries (defrosted) on top of our cereal. That is a better way to start than bananas, as you ease into P2. Kashi Go Lean is very crunchy, and Fiber One is a bit sweet tasting, so we mix the 2. If you're not crazy about them, you can use them as a topping to yogurt. If you still can't handle the cereal, then cottage cheese mixed with fruit (fresh or frozen) is a good breakfast. And don't forget oatmeal (not the instant kind) - it doesn't taste like wheat or bran. Search the recipe forum for lots of suggestions on how to make it "yummy."
How about Triscuits for getting some grains? Try the thin crisps as a snack - I don't think you will find them to "wheat-y".
We also love WW pita pockets - you can stuff them with anything, or make pizzas out of them. Toast them up with some cheese inside so it gets gooey. Don't be afraid to try things...you just might find they're not so bad...and before long, you will probably be enjoying them.
I was never much of a nut eater, and always HATED almonds...now I love them; I have to control myself with how many I eat. You will be surprised at how your tastes have - and will - change!
P2 is GREAT - there is so much to try, even for picky eaters. The best way to handle it is to do lots of reading for ideas, so you can prepare ahead of time and not get stuck in the rut of making the same old thing. I've been here 5 months and I still check the recipe forum every day!
Good luck! |
