question on treats

do you think it will make you gain weight if you go over your treat limit for a day?

For example what if you eat 160 calories instead of your limit of 75? The reason I am asking is I had some chocolate that was no sugar added but it added up to 160. Do you think it would help if I do extra exercise tonight to help with my calories intake?

No I don't think it will make you gain weight unless it becomes a steady habit, and yes exercise will help! ;) You would need to eat a 3500 calorie surplus to gain a pound. You won't do that in a day. But you don't want to get in a mindset that you can eat all the sweets you want and still lose weight too!

I wouldn't worry too much about going over the 75 calorie sweet treat limit sometimes. Especially since it was recently revealed in a Daily Dish that the reason for the limit was due to the effect of sugar alcohols on some people. Hope this helps you.

thanks for the great responses. I don't think it will be a daily thing, well I hope not anyway. Some people brought in some chocolate. I did some extra cardio.

Why is it that they say it takes 3500 calories to gain a pound, but somedays you gain rather you slip up or not? I know that days I do not reach the 3500 calories and I still gain. I know it is mostly what type of foods you eat the day before, salty or not get enough of you water but it does seem what you eat does reflect your weight for the next day.

Because that number of calories (3500) comes from nutritional science. And it is not the total number, but the net difference between calories in and calories out that count towards that number. That is why if you can create a 500 calorie deficit on average per day, you can lose on average, 1 lb a week. All the other daily fluctuations are just water weight, food/water volume in vs. waste volume out and all the other variables that cause daily fluctuations. That is why we really should only look at long term trends on the scale and short term variations are so notoriously unreliable as an indicator of anything in particular.
