Scotch?

I know we are allowed a glass of wine on occasion, but where does Scotch fit in? Or is it a permanent no-no? I really enjoy a drink of Scotch late in the evening but if it will be my undoing weight loss-wise I'll stay away from it.

Scotch is fine, as are most distilled spirits. They don't have the same health benefits of red wine, but as far as "negatives" go, there's not much difference. Other spirits that are OK include gin, rum, and vodka. All of the sugars in these drinks have been metabolized to alcohol during the fermentation process. You just need to be careful what you mix them with.

Thanks for the good news. I received a special bottle of scotch for my birthday and I haven't had a sip of it yet. I'll crack the seal tonight. :D

FWIW, I think I've read some chats with Dr. A where he mentions that newer studies show that there are heart healthy benefits with moderate alcohol intake and it isn't just red wine. The key is that word "moderate'!!
Alcohol is still all basically empty calories nutrition wise and if consumed in excess will crater a diet program. And that is just as true for red wine!

The good news with a good scotch (single malt??) is that you don't generally mix it with anything other than a little water or an ice cube or two depending on your preferences. It is also the mixers in things like rum and cokes and margaritas that contain ungodly amounts of sugars! Even a little club soda and a twist adds no calories, but I wouldn't do that with a good scotch myself!

Enjoy! But in moderation!

I've found Sugar-Free margarita mix, sweetened with splenda, that can be ordered online . I'll see if I can dig up the website.

Thanks Redroxco ... I do drink my single malt Scotch neat and when it comes to gin I prefer a gin martini with a twist so no mix there either. Bottoms up! :D
