Sugar free gum is OK. Some people seem to use it fairly effectively to get through cravings for sweets and to just chew something that is relatively calorie free. Sugar alcohols are another type of artificial sweetener that are not supposed to cause blood sugar responses so are allowed on SB. They tend to cause gastro-intestinal issues in a fair amount of people (runs, diarhhea) so just watch overall consumption of them, but there are so few in gum as to cause a problem.

If you are having "that breath" then you are probably experiencing some form of ketosis and you should increase your good carb intake with some beans, milk, plain ff yogurt, veggies or all of the above. We aren't supposed to go into ketosis on SB, although I suspect most people really don't eat enough carbs in P1 even though they are supposed to.
