Hello everyone! I am planning on beginning SBD on Feb. 1st. I was looking at the Phase one daily eating guide. For each meal it says to have protien, veggie, a fat (mayo, oil, nuts)...but no where does it say dairy. Yet, I have read that you should have dairy. I am confused. I am trying to fully understand this before attempting it. I don't want another failed diet on my list.
Thanks in advance.

| The newest guidelines allow for 2-3 cups of dairy per day. This means skim or 1% milk and/or plain FF yogurt in phase 1. I don't think it matters that much which meal or meals you add them to. Cheeses don't count against the dairy limit. |

You must be looking at an old eating guide. The newest one is in my FAQ under portion guidelines.
I don't know if you've read the book, but I would highly recommend it so that you not only know what to eat, but why. Then you can really make it your own and turn it into a healthy lifetyle change. |

I guess I should have read the FAQ's first. Thanks. Huge help. I am feeling a little overwhelmed and wondering if I can do this. I have been having a Slim Fast shake every morning, and meal replacement bars (as snacks and lunch) 1-2 times daily for about 6 months (since the birth of my third child). It's a habit that will be hard to break. And, it makes me wonder....What will I eat? I require quick, on the go, small, portable snacks and sometimes meals. I don't want scrambled eggs every morning, followed by hard boiled eggs for lunch.
Does anyone understand and/or have some suggestions?
I am having cosmetic surgery in a month or so and want to be at least 10 lbs down by then.
Thanks, again. |

I was concerned about what to eat in P1, too, but I found some sort of weird alternatives that worked for me. Spaghetti sauce - a small jar mixed with 1/2 pound of sweet Italian turkey sausage and 1/2 pound extra lean ground beef. I just put 1/2 or 1 cup in a bowl and ate it like a stew. It's the best part of spaghetti anyway, and I didn't even miss the pasta. Also, I could make a batch up quickly and freeze it in single serving portions for quick reheats.
Another concoction I like is 1/2 pound sweet Italian turkey sausage broken up and cooked in a large, heavy pot. I used a non stick skillet and stirred a lot so I didn't have to add any fat and the sausage didn't seem to leave any either. (I get this from a health food store and it's very lean, no fillers, etc., and the ingredients seem to check out with P1 - no wheat, etc.) Once it's cooked I throw in 1 small to medium cubed eggplant, 1-2 cubed zucchini and 1-2 cubed yellow squash and a 28 oz. can of stewed tomatoes with the juice and let the mess simmer, covered, until the veggies are tender. A cup is filling and to the best I can calculate, really low in calories. I freeze this, too. I call it Sausage Ratatouille, but it's kind of like a "ratatouille soup" or something.
Vanilla custard is delicious. Check out the recipe somewhere on this site. I also got really attached to the turkey roll ups and celery stuffed with Laughing Cow cheese. |
