And I would recommend getting some canned beans (or dry beans if you have time to make them). I personally make sure I have black beans, butter beans, chick peas, green beans, etc., in the cabinet. Very good in a pinch.
ALSO -- get some low sodium chicken broth. I find it's very useful to have on hand and helps me make all sorts of stuff in a pinch! :D |

I second the bean advice - I use black beans in practically everything! Salads, soups, on pizza, in wraps, with eggs, etc. Great source of fibre and carbs!
I also drink and eat 1% or skim milk with cereal and I couldn't live without my daily yogurt. |

Here is a good shopping list for P1... They actually used to say it was "Phase 1", but I believe they got in trouble because of copywrite stuff and threatens for lawsuits because of their use of the SBD so had to change to calling it "Low Carb Load" |

In addition to the basic essentials, I highly recommend, if you haven't done so already, that you plan out everything you are going to eat for the first couple of days. Breakfasts, lunches, dinners, and snacks. Decide on your recipes and add what you need to your list.
I know my first couple of days would have been a heck of a lot less stressful if I'd been more diligent in doing that myself. |

I would buy (and read) "the book"......
However in the mean time here is an online condensed version of The South Beach Book http://www.booksontape.com/South_Beach_Heart.pdf
It has up to date (as of 2007) food lists and sample menu's for each phase (just scroll down).... and may help answer a lot of your questions.
Also, reading the faq's "stickied" to the top of each forum here is helpful. |
