i know that everyone is different, but i'm wondering how long it will take me to get to my target weight (besides the answer "you'll get there when you get there.") i'm 25, 6' even, and am 230lbs (ouch!) i want to get to 175!!! long ways to go but i'm just wondering about how long i'm looking at.

Well, if you use some math...you may lose between 8 and 14 lbs in the first two weeks, after that it is not healthy to lose more than 1 to 2 lbs a week so if you can keep that up, which is quite a lofty goal, you're looking at 6 months to a year to lose 55 lbs, but lbs aren't all you'll lose, you will lose inches and if you excercise you will lose even more inches and if looking good is what you are after (which is what most of us mistake for weight) then you could be at your "goal" sooner than that.

Hope that helps and good luck!

I agree ... give yourself about 1 year. Weight loss slows down the closer your get to your ideal weight - about 1 lb/wk or less.

I'm a slow loser but that's probably due to several factors: I allow myself cocktails on weekends and one pig-out meal weekly. I have frequent business trips - while I can basically follow the SBD, it does get somewhat compromised during these trips. Also, I take an all-inclusive vacation or two at all-inclusives in the winter and I don't take SBD with me on those.

One factor that seems to drive everyone crazy, is that, when they start the diet, their conditions are ideal - their life is stable, there are no crises or celebrations looming.

Rare is the dieter who starts just before Xmas!

So keep in mind that life will sometimes get in the way of your progress. This is inevitable!

thanks. my plan is to start working out pretty soon. my goal isn't to just look and feel better though. my goal is really to get my body mass index down to where i can join the military, if i so chose to go that route. but 6 months to a year i think i can do.

As a woman (I'm assuming your a man at that height), it took me about six months to lose 40 pounds, so I think by six months, you'll be pretty close.

Note: I did not cheat or slip up at all during that six month period. I just LOVE eating this way and found it really quite easy. I also rarely exercised, so if you add that into the mix, 6 months could be a realistic goal.

Good Luck!
