I was wondering if spaghetti sauce was acceptable on phase one. There is no additional sugar in the ingredients.

Thanks

There are posts about this somewhere but I believe spaghetti sauce is fine as long as it is no sugar added. I was on Weight Watchers for a while and used to get the Healthy choice spaghetti sauce. I never looked at the jar for the sugar count because that't not what Weight Watchers was concerned with. Anyway you may want to check that out and if it says "no sugar added" then it should be fine.

Also I am not this industrious but you may be able to find a SB friendly spaghetti sauce recipe if you feel so inclined to make your own. :D

Lenore, in my area we can buy Ragu Carb Options Garden Vegetable Pasta Sauce and it is excellent - it's sweetened with Splenda.

All the regular pasta sauces are just loaded with sugar! I've found several recipes for homemade sugar free pasta sauce and when I have the time I'll try them as well.

Just a side note that you may already be aware of, but tomatos contain natural sugars, so you will never see a spagetti sauce with 0 sugars on the nutrition label. The key as others have already noted is to read the ingredient list as well and try to find those that have no added sugars (or hidden sugars like evaporated cane juice and others). It isn't easy though! We usually end up with one where the sugars are at least well down the ingredient list and are still relatively low in overall sugars on the nutrition label.

Thanks guys! DH and I have fallen off the beach wagon, and we have to restart phase 1 again. I couldn't remember if the spaghetti sauce was ok on it or not.

My favorite sauce is a store brand, called Meijer Selects. There is no additional sugar, and its often on sale 3 for $5!!
