HI chyna,

Sorry to hear of your loss. I wanted to let you know that in the first phase you are allow shrimp and there is a great recipe for the dill shrimp which you marinate over night then eat over a huge salad  I'm sure you can find it online in the south beach diet recipe selection. If not write me back and I'll help you with it!! It's delicous and I'm sure much better for you then all the sodium of using the Old Bay Seasoning.

Good luck!! I just started phase 2 yesterday. I lost 10 lbs on phase one!

Look it as a detox! :D

The junk that's leaving your body leaves you feeling sometimes weak and ill feeling. Headaches are common, a little nausea maybe. You just feel sick; or some just feel weak and tired.

If you know it's coming you can look at it like the contractions of birth - the birth of a new you! 8)

My symptoms lasted from the time I woke up in the morning until just after noon, I think. I took a nap to help myself thru it. I woke up feeling fine. This is just *my experience* and I don't know that everyone goes thru it.

Thanks Sis for the "heads up" Hopefully it won't be too bad. Unfortunately I will be unable to nap it off since I teach 1st grade and my kids might be wondering why I am sleeping. :D

Hi Sis,

I just wanted to post that I didn't get any headaches or feel ill at any time while on phase one. Could it be that you maybe were getting some sort of flu or was I just fortunate!! I'd be interested in hearing from others regarding this matter. I am sorry that you suffered, but I LOVE your out look on it...love the new birth idea!!

Hey, it probably is horrible that I'm mentioning my mother, because you recently lost yours. But she went on the south beach diet and lost so much weight that it was as if she would walk and the fat would just rip off her bones, I'm trying to say that it's not impossible, and from what she says, not even hard to do, I'm trying this diet, but since I'm a teen, I'm meant to lose weight so it works a little easier for me. :-P

Chyna, you can use regular dressing--just make sure it doesn't have much sugar in it. We don't generally eat low-carb products because they have other unhealthy additives. Full fat dressings are fine as the fat helps slow digestion and makes you feel full.

As for feeling sick in P1--not everyone does but it is VERY common. It's kind of like hypoglycemia because of the sudden reduction of sugars and starches. It happens around day 3 or 4 and can last from a few hours to a few days. It helps to eat beans (like in chili), get some dairy, and eat lots of veggies. It's uncomfortable but does pass, and then you can't believe how good you feel and how much energy you have.

No fruit of any type in P1 but beans are great for you and allowed.

Pretty much yes. Refried beans and pinto beans used to be only a P2 item, but have since been reclassified into P1, although they may be higher in fat than just some black beans or kidney beans for instance. But really they are all good!

Chyd,

It's best to use 2 tBSP of low-sugar prepared dressing, or use olive oil with red wine vinegar or balsamic vinegar with the olive oil. The dill shrimp uses a special herb dressing that you actually marinated the peeled shrimp in AFTER you cook them. You'll dump this over fresh romaine lettuce! it's delicious!! Today I had a greek salad for lunch and used olive oil and fresh squeezed lemon juice and some orageno for the dressing!

feel free to ask any questions...it may take time to find what works for you...everyones metabolism is different!! stick with it!!

I started the diet today too. I've been working out for 3 months, eating well during the week, eating everything on the weekends, no weight loss since I started working out. I'm hoping this will work. I've gained about 25 pounds since getting married 2.5 years ago. I'd like to drop 20 of those by June. Hopefully this board will hold me liable for my actions. I'll weigh myself every morning and report it here.

Good Luck Everyone!!
