| cottage cheese (I like it flavored with cinnamon and splenda) or yogurt. A hard-boiled egg and some veggie sticks. Once you're past P1 you can have certain kinds of cereal. |

| I just noticed that you are 13. You need to be really careful about this--because I don't think this diet was made for kids. Have you spoken with your mom and your doctor and gotten their okay on this? |

| Good point. I think I've responded to a few of your other posts SBDteen and didn't think to mention that teens should skip P1 and go right to P2. Your growing body needs the other foods. So forget about P1--you'll do better on P2. |

Doesn't she sound mature for 13!? :)
Altho' I agree that a growing teen definitely needs more carbs than say *I* do, two weeks of some deprivation isn't gonna hurt anyone, is it? It's about getting some self-control and eating habits re-established.
Since your parents are involved, and you sound so mature, I would think you'll be wise about this. If you DO start feeling weak, dizzy, any of the symptoms that show too few carbs,... make sure to add a healthy carb in there once or twice a day.
(Of course, I'm not an expert, here! Please take THAT into consideration.) |

Vegetables
(artichokes, asparagus, beans, broccoli, cauliflower, celery, cucumbers, eggplant, legumes, lettuce, mushrooms, spinach, tomatoes, zucchini)
And for you.... a piece of fruit like a banana or apple.
You can always eat more salad veggies. :P |

"Good" carbs are those whose consumption are encouraged on SB. Generally, they are characterized by being relatively low on the gylcemic index (GI), have other nutritional benefits and are relatively unprocessed. So most fresh vegetables make the cut because they are unprocessed and contain a variety of other nutrients and vitamins. Some like corn don't make the cut because they are so much higher in their glycemic index. Whole grains and those products made from whole grains, like whole wheat pasta, again are less processed and contain more fiber than white refined grains and flours, like regular white pastas. The legume kind of beans, like black, navy, kidney, etc., are high in carbs, but also high in protein and fiber and most are very low on the GI scale. Same thing with most fruits. Lot of antioxidants, vitamins, and good stuff for your body. But again, low GI fruits like berries and tart apples are better for us on SB than higher GI fruit like watermelon. Eating a whole orange is better for you on SB than just drinking OJ which is more processed and usually does not contain the fiber and the good stuff you get from eating the whole fruit instead of just the processed juice.
It's kind of an important concept on this program and it helps to understand the principles as you make daily decisions about what you should eat and what you should avoid. |
