When you determine how much weight you want to lose, do you start right off with the absolute DESIRE to be thin? I'd love to see what I'd look like at 120 again, but .... that was my pre-marriage weight at 17. Is that realistic?
On the other hand, if I know I'd like to at least get to 150 (cuz I've been there and felt good), do I choose THAT as my "goal" weight? There's 30 lb discrepency between those two options! |

I think your second goal is the most realistic! So many people want to be as thin as they were in college/High school etc...but our metabolisms change with age, and that goal of 120 may be completely unrealistic! then if you never meet it you may be crushed!
150 is prob a goal that you can make, and then at that point I would readjust your goal, if at 150 you still want to lose more and losing it is realistic, then maybe try for 145...etc....I think your body will tell you when your at a healthy weight.
Personally, Ive been overweight all my life, I was prob well into the 230's in High School...so I picked the higher healthy weight for my height.
Good luck to you! |

What you said certainly *feels* right to me.
I was actually down to 160 for a couple of weeks not long ago and it felt SO good - and I was back in some old clothes I love and haven't worn much. Then, it just started creeping back on as I slacked.
Have you ever lost much weight before? Is this your first diet plan? Have you done your measurements? |

This is my first Real effort with a diet. I remember dieting some in my teen years, but I was happy with myself even though overweight after High school. Now I have a husband who needs to lose weight or die, and I could sure be heathier so we are working together.
We started SBD in May of last year, I lost 53lbs, my husband about 60lbs.... but we sold our house in october, everything was very stressful and never got back on track! So here I am humbling myself again and start fresh tomorrow, after gaining about 30lbs I had lost back! UGH.
Its a great plan! Very healthy and you just feel so wonderful while on it!! |

I think our goals are set rather arbitrarily based on either where we have been (and want to get back to!) or where we *think* we want to be. Many on the board list an ultimate goal and mini goals along the way.
Personally, I have set my goal too high. I am almost there (a pound or so to go) and I don't look like I was thinking I was going to look, so I may amend my goal down another 5 lbs. Or I might just hit the gym really hard and see what I look like with more working out. Just go with the flow. Put 150 as your goal and when you attain it, if you feel like you want to lose more, move your goal down again. |

| Yes, I agree to start at your second goal so you don't feel discouraged, then amend that as you approach it if you feel you still want to lose more. As far as can you get down to your high school weight--maybe. That depends on how old you are now, why you put the weight on, and how committed you are. I'm 47 and only a few pounds above my high school weight, but never got heavy, so it is very realistic for me. The most important thing is to get where you feel good physically and emotionally about yourself. |

| Your body's going to kind of tell you where it wants to be: you'll lose steadily then plateau, and will have to do something to jumpstart the weight loss again. For now, I'd recommend not worrying too much about long-term goals. This is a diet for the long-haul. The first two weeks are about re-setting your body's expectations (craving); then you will lose weight slowly and steadily. Think of P1 as a way to get into the rhythm of SBD. |
