I just recently purchased the South Beach Diet and I am preparing to begin. I have one question. Are the menu plans in the book just for guidelines? Can you substitute something else for the V-8 and tomato juice? I do not like either one. I was thinking of just diced tomatoes or salsa on my egss. Is that okay?
Any advise would be appreciated. |

No, you don't have to follow the meal plans. If you don't want the veggie/tomato juice, just make sure to have at least a ½ cup of veggies. Diced tomatoes with some salsa would work fine!
Also, make sure you check out my FAQ, as it might answer some other questions that you have after reading the book. |

| Hooray for you, nburnett! You're already "thinking outside the box" when it comes to meal planning - sounds like you're going to be very successful on the Beach! |

| nburnett, welcome! I was feeling a bit stressed over the meal plans in the book when I started as well! Tomorrow is my last day of Phase 1 and it has been a real learning process! Don't get too caught up in the meal plans in the book. They are just a guidline. I have found that as long as I eat when I'm hungry and get the proper amounts of veggies and proteins, I am satisfied and lack cravings! It seems to me that the amount of food I want to eat varies from day to day. Somedays are hungrier days than others....just be sure to eat the right things! Last night I tried the SB Surprise Potato recipe from the book and it was really good! That along with some homeade, lean meat spaghetti sauce and I was so full, so quick! I am finding the amount of food I care to eat at one sitting is less than what I was eating just 2 weeks ago! I wish you the best of luck! :D |
