I'm so glad to see there are others out there who are in the same weight and goal category as myself. I want to be a knockout on my 50th birthday in 3 years so I'm starting now. I'm 164 lbs and would like to lose about 15-20 lbs. max. and keep it off! I was starving everyday until I found some leftover black-eyed peas in the fridge. Had those with a piece of meat and some collard greens and what a difference! I was not eating enough in my portions. I'm a gourmet cook so this is not easy. I miss the sweet treats. I've even cheated a little by having ONE after eight dinner mint at night for a couple of nights. But last night (nite 4) I had a handful of peanuts instead. I drink about 48 oz. of water a day and only couple cups of coffee in the morning with fat free hal-n-half, no sweetener. Can't wait to have fruit again! My question is has anyone out there in my weight and goal category been on the diet for awhile and been able to maintain even after cheating? This is a big concern for me since I'm such a great cook. I've lost 1.5 lbs so far. :D

I'm on day 3 of P1, so take my advice for what it's worth.

However, my understanding is that "cheating" is something that's more acceptible in P2 and P3, but P1 needs to be pretty strict. If you're dying for sweets, why not try no-suger fudgesickles? It's what's saving me.

Anyhow, I'd encourage you to try and adopt a mindset where "cheating" isn't acceptible, 'cause personally that's how I got fat in the first place -- making exceptions. "Oh, I can eat that extra slice of pizza" or "I can skip the gym this once", etc. It's an easy road to go down.

Hi There! I am on day 6-I have not cheated at all yet (or at least i don't think so). Here we are at the weekend though and that is where this will be a bit harder. I love to cook and I love to eat. I also love my cocktails

This is a way of life so I say if you cheat don't beat yourself up. Just dust off the next day and work harder. I am going to try to go out with friends and not have a cocktail this weekend. Hopefully I succeed. If I give in I made the choice and know that is an extra 15 min on the elliptical for each drink. I think if you feel you are depriving yourself you will not stick with it. You have to think of it as this is how I am going to eat for the rest of my life. Just make sure you don't cheat more than you stick with it! In phase 2 I am looking forward to having cocktails once a week. But I know I have to limit it to once a week.

I am a believer that you have to enjoy life. Just don't enjoy it as much as I did over the holidays!

Best of Luck!

I got on the scale sat. morning and boy was I surprized. 5 lbs. gone in 5 days with no exercise - WOW! So what did I do... I went to the gym and went 2 miles on the eliptical and did 3 sets on each nautilus machine. No more cheating because I found a whole line of sugar free candy! I can either have 1-2 pieces of candy at night or nuts or a fudgesicle. I limit myself to one treat watching TV. Now I will do some kind of exercise every single day, even if it's just a short 1 mile walk in my neigborhood. I did not beat myself up for cheating while still in phase 1 and look what I got in return. This is an eating change and now on day 8 it is getting easier! And man do I love the SB Surprize Mashed Potatoes. I don't think I'll ever miss white potatoes again. Thanks to everyone for their comments on these pages. Until I found out I could have a glass of skim milk with my meals or as a snack, I was starving. I was using the meals in the book exactly and was not aware I could snack on other allowed goodies too if I was hungry. I miss my cocktails too but will stick it out till I get to Phase 2-only 6 more days to go to that glorious glass of wine!
