Help! I am 11 days into phase 1, and have been following the plan, eating chicken breast, lean meats, lowfat cheese and I have not lost 1 pound! A friend of mine has just finised phase 1 and she's lost 14 pounds, so needless to say I am so discouraged. It looks like my stomach is getting flatter, but the scale is not moving a bit. I will definitely be adding a third week to phase 1, but can anyone give me suggestions on how to kick start the loss?
I've been on weight watchers before, and that works for me, so I'm not sure why this isn't working for me. I have had a tbsp of peanut butter a couple of times a week, but that cannot possibly be killing my diet!
HELP! I'm so frustrated. I need to lose about 25 pounds to be back to a healthy weight of 145 for my height.
Any suggestions? |

Are you following the menu plan given in the book? That's the best way to know if you're staying on track with the eating and portions. Portions aren't emphasised as an issue, but it still matters.
Also, do you exercise at all? For me that really makes the difference. |

I actually don't have the hardcover book, just the food guide, but I am following all of the lists listed on the sites and watching my portion size more then ever.
just started walking/running again last week after a month hiatus.
I don't know what's going on! |

Geez, I don't know what to say. I know for me that it really helped to have the 14-day meal plan. I could follow it to the letter and know that I was not screwing it up somehow. The book itself is also very motivating, but granted it's kind of expensive.
Everybody is different, and I think the effects of the diet kick in at different times. Stick with it...but consider buying/borrowing the book for more motivation and menu ideas. |

Are you doing this under Doctor supervision? You may have an undiagnosed problem that's not letting you lose weight. I've been on phase one for about 10 days now and also not noticed much weight loss.
However, the book does mention that some people may only notice a slimmer look, not a weight loss for the first little while, which is certainly the case with me. I need to lose about 50 - 60 lbs and am hoping to do this by my birthday in August. Have you started to notice that clothes are starting to fit better or that you need a belt with pants that you didn't before ? This is the case with me. I can tuck my shirts back into my jeans again.
I have an extremely bad back problem (3 inch curve in my spine) that doesn't let me get much exercise without an incredible amount of pain, so controlling diet is very important for me.
I've recently bought a zero impact work out machine - the Gazelle - and I'm trying to do 10 mins on this 3 - 4 times a week, but it's still quite painful and I'm hoping that weight loss will help with this. |

Hi Nolechick-
Lots of people have expressed the same problem! It's ok! It seems that people with less to lose do it slower than those with more substantial weight loss goals. Is your friend heavier than you are? That may explain why she lost more than you.
Also, people have also noticed that even if they aren't losing weight, they are getting smaller. That could be the case for you too.
Three things I recommend: 1) drink enough water (LOTS, seriously, 1-2 liters a day), 2) watch your sodium intake. 3) Poke around the board here and see what others have said (at the very least, take comfort that you are not alone).
Good luck,
Jess |

Give us some more details. How old are you? How tall? What weight?
Maybe give us some detailed intake information... What are you eating on a daily basis and at what volume? Are you using sauces/ketchup?
Regular peanut butter is not recommended. I believe he recommends natural or at the very least low fat. |

| No, not low fat peanut butter -- that stuff is typically loaded with sugar. Natural is the best (no salt/sugar added). |

| I have been on SB for two weeks - started at 150 lbs and have only lost 5 pounds. I'm also very tired. Is there a trick to this??? |

Hello,
I'm about 5'5", 166 pounds, 28 years old... my goal is to get back in the 140s, which is a healthy weight for me.
I'm not eating any sauces - no ketchup, just mustard and low fate mayo. Only low fat cheese slices - 2%. Eating protein like a mad woman - chicken breast, lean ground beef, lean sirloin, veggies, eggs and the only salad dressing I am using is olive oil and red wine vinegar.
Like I said, this is very weird because on weight watchers I have typically lost about 8 pounds in the first week - mostly water weight - but with this, the scale hasn't fell at all. I am exercising - about 4x per week, walking and running and some bike and muscle exercises. My portions have gotten smaller for each meal. As of today, my second weekend has ended and still no difference on the scale.
The only thing I can think that is preventing me from losing is that I'm not drinking enough water (i'm at about 5-7 pints a day) or that I'm not eating enough food at each meal. I don't know. I'm stumped. |

| You said you exercise about four times per week which include running and muscle exercises. These could be increasing your muscle mass, and since muscle weighs more than fat you're not showing any difference numbers wise. However, you could be losing inches. When you started this diet did you measure yourself? |

dont spend an extra week on P1 unless you are having cravings...P1 is detoxing the body..not weightloss..and not meant for any longer than 2 weeks.
move into P2 regardless if you have dropped any weight..if you are getting smaller..its working
oh and if you dont follow the menus in the book..its ok..just follow the food guides and make sure to check labels of stuff before you eat them, stay within the 75 cal sweet treat limit, etc....this is especially true for P2 because the menus add too much back at one time.... |

You said that you are "eating protein like a mad woman". My question is, are you eating too much? The correct portion for protein is to start with 3 oz. and only go back for more if you are still hungry. This is not a high protein diet.
Also, you never said how much veggies you are eating. It should total 4.5 cups a day. It might be helpful if you could post you average menu. |

| I agree that this is sounding like too much meat and not enough veggies. The book really stresses the veggies. Also, if you didn't eat a lot of the wrong starches and sugars before the diet, you won't lose as much in P1. P2 is where the real weight lose part is, so move on to it. |
