Have had major problem with constipation for a few years now. Now that I am well into phase 2, I started eating Fiber One cereal. Strange but I eat it as my before bedtime snack. It is the only thing that I have found that will help me go to the bathroom. I had been dependent on 2 exlax a night. Haven't had to take those for a couple of weeks now. I feel so much better. Anyone suffering from constipation should give Fiber One a try.

That's excellent news! It's much better to use a natural fiber than to be dependent on a laxative. Yay!

Who makes it? My dh has this problem also, maybe it would help him!

It's a major brand (but I had to look it up since I couldn't remember what it was), so it should be readily available-- General Mills.

I decided to get some, too. It tastes surprisingly sweet for something that has no added sugar. Of course, I never would have thought that pre-SB, and the only way I would've been able to eat it is with a LOT of sugar dumped on it. I'm actually enjoying it plain with just some milk right now.

ACK! I just looked, and it has Nutrasweet in it. I've been trying avoid artificial sweeteners. I wonder if there's one without aspartame?

Nope, doesn't look like it :(

Oh please, oh please, let this work - I bought some last night and had a bowl (it was my last day on P1 but my tummy is so swollen and I am so 'blocked up' I will try anything oh, and I have put on a lb or 2  ) and this morning I had more with some Uncle Sam - but it's now 12.30 pm and I am still waiting for some movement!!!!!!!
I even drunk in excess of 2L of water the last 2 days....
Your right though it does taste very sweet....

The second ingredient in it is Corn Bran and the 3rd is corn starch. Are you sure this cereal is OK?

It comes from the approved cereal list from the SB people. It can't have very much cornstarch with all that fiber, and corn bran is the best part of the corn kernel, so that's okay.

You can also try dried apricots for "blockage."

I don't eat much cold cereal but I frequently do take a couple of teaspoons of generic Metamucil (sugar free, orange flavored, smooth texture) mixed with a little water and very quickly chugged down, followed always by a large glass of water. I do this in the morning before I eat breakfast.

As a diabetic Metamucil helps me keep from getting a blood sugar spike after eating a meal. It also does wonders for me in the bathroom ... almost guarantees a daily quick in and out trip to the bathroom without the irritation that some bran products can cause some people ... me for instance.

Many people on phase 1 seem to have constipation ... maybe the South Beach Diet book should be sold along with a bottle of Metamucil. What do you think? :D

I don't think I'll buy the Fiber One again-- it has maltodextrin, which keeps making me gassy

OK, so Metamucil (generic or store brand works just as well) is great for "regularity". But there are times when a person might want to have some "movement" in the situation that we have been discussing.

Here is a new thread I started to address this very important topic:

I have not had constipation very much in my life ... but some people I care a lot about have ... and this inexpensive herbal tea works wonders ... just ask my mother. :D I talked to her tonight and told her that I recommended store brand Metamucil. She said to be sure and tell you all about Smooth Move herbal tea, so I am. :D :D
