So, I met up with my trainer for the first "official" time today. I met with her yesterday, but that was to take my measurements, body fat %, and to turn in my food log that I had to keep for a week. One of her friends is a registered dietician that creates meal plans for her clients in order to assist in the healthy living process. Do you want to know how many calories the dietician wants me to eat?!! 1300!!! 1300 measly little calories!! AAUGH!! Thankfully the dietician did mention that I was eating the right stuff, just that since my body fat % was outrageously high(38% when it needs to be between 17-22%!!!) I needed to go down to 1300 calories for a while!! I seriously want to cry.

Plus my body hurts cause we did the whole work out thing--I swear the folks on "The Biggest Loser" have nothing on me compared to my work out tonight....it hurts to type!!

Looks to me you are doing real well, you lost 27 pounds, so whatever you are doing must be working. I honstly have no clue how many calories I am consuming, but I', sure it's over 1300!!! Don't stress over it and stick with the program, you are doing well, hang in there.

Ir's interesting to see just how many calories you are taking in during the day.. I thought I was eating WAY too many calories, but found out that I was eating no where near as much as I was.

Just a suggestion- but if you need to track your calories, go to fitday.com. You can track your meals on there. It works!

Yes, definitely track an average day in Fitday and see where that puts you. Personally, I would also get a second opinion before I cut calories to 1300, especially if you are losing weight with what you are doing now.

That's insane! 1,300 calories a day isn't as important as eating well--fiber, vitamins, minerals — and working out.

Silly calories. You could eat doghnuts and stick at 1,300 calories a day, but you're not going to be doing well!

Good luck with what you're doing!

*Personal Trainers R Us*... I'm pretty sure they're having a big pre-Christmas sale... run quick!!!

I found my trainer at the gym, but I suppose you could also find a private trainer through word-of-mouth or perhaps also a gym.

Good for you with the personal trainer!! I lost 15 pounds in 6 weeks by eating right and going to a trainer a few years ago. Right now I'm in a different type of training regimin, but plan to go back to the free weight plan she gave me way back when. That was my most successful stint of weight loss before SB, I just ran out of money :)

I was thinking of combining the two to see what I would come up with!

As for the calories, I have a post on last weeks shorties thread (below) that gives you the low down on BMI with a calorie burner calculator. I know we don't count calories, but it is nice to see what you actually burn off during the day! I burn anywhere from 1500 at rest to 3000+ with 16+ mile runs for a day. So I readjust my eating habits according to those numbers so I don't starve myself, but I don't count what I actually eat. I just increase it for my run days.

Quote: Actually hold on before you start counting. Even though 1500 cals per day is a good estimate of the amount needed to sustain your body at the weight it is, it is only when it is at rest. (i.e. sitting, resting, not doing any activity all day) The amount you consume to the amount you burn is more difficult than just a factor of 10. It depends on whether you are male/female, your age, your weight, and how active you are too. And now that you are starting to work out you don't want to starve yourself either. I found this out at the beginning of going on SB because I'm in training for a marathon, and I learned the hard way that SB Phase I alone cannot sustain me if I run 1 hour +. So I add calories by adding in good carbs. This is a very individualistic thing.

Check out this link which explains your basal and resting metabolic rate whether you are sedentary or fully active. There is a difference of about 20% when you are only at rest. When you start to add activity that number goes up (mainly because the sedentary person does much less excercize than the very active person). So if you wanted to lose 1-2 pounds per week which is recommended on SBD, you would have to have a deficit of 500 calories per day depending on this number. If you exercize you would have to add the extra calories burned into your calculation, and basically you get to eat more on those days. If you have too much of a deficit your body will go into "starvation" mode and start to hold onto those calories and then you will also experience a stall.

http://www.caloriesperhour.com/faqs_BMR.html

Here is the BMI calculator if you want to get an idea for yourself how much you should really be intaking on days without, and then do it again for days with excercize to get a good range of calories.

http://www.caloriesperhour.com/index_burn.html

With this calculator you can calculate how much you burn for 8 hours of sleep, 8 hours behind a desk, 1 hour of excercize, etc and it will add up all the calories for you. I did a simple calculation and had one with me "resting" for 24 hours which came to about 1470 cals, and one with 20 hours "resting" plus 4 hour jog (for marathon training) and it shot me up to 2960. So on light days I probablly would eat roughly 1500 because I know I'm running around doing things and not totally resting all day. And on my run days I will eat much much more. Not 2500 calories, but I will try to hit 2000 or so by adding in more whole grains and fruit.

Hope this helps
