Pill or powder fiber?

I just started phase 2 today and take fiber pills 1-2 times a day and lots of veggies and beans and really had no problem during most of phase 1 but the last couple of days I've been feeling a little stopped up and what does come sounds like rocks hitting the bowl. I've always had a problem with this because I have very mild IBS with constipation but I wasn't worried until now. Today I had a little blood as reward for all my efforts. I'm not freaking out over that because it was only a little and not bleeding now but I don't want to repeat that if possible. I had my first slice of bread today so I know that should help some.

Should I take fiber powder rather than pills?
Is there any other way to soften things up a bit?

Hi Pris,

It's been a long time since you posted this and I hope that you got your question answered somehow other than from this forum. And I hope that you are long past having this serious problem due especially to not getting enough fiber in your diet. This is something that frequently happens to people during phase 1 from what I read.

Personally I did not do phase 1 at all ... didn't think that it was necessary or healthy to eat this way, especially since I cannot eat more than 1/4 serving of beans at a time, and we all need to have a lot of fiber in our diets. Drinking plenty of water and eating plenty of fiber (beans and other veggies) during phase 1 helps a lot. After getting beyond phase 1, adding back whole grains and fruit helps makes a big difference. Just remember to make vegetables the core of your diet ... that is where we get our fiber naturally.

Fiber pills vs powder?

I stopped taking fiber pills because they have so much less fiber than powdered store-brand easy to dissolve sugar free Metamucil or Benefiber (dissolves completely without thickening but more expensive than Metamucil). And I have to pop enough pills as it is.

The way I take store-brand easy to dissolve sugar free Metamucil is to dissolve it with a small amount of water (1/2 cup), swallow it as fast as possible and follow this immediately by drinking a big glass of water (very, very important part).

Any way to soften things up? Dulcolax

You might also want to move things along, so to speak, if and when you have done all that you can do (water, vegetables, powdered fiber, and exercise) and still have a problem. Just don't make this a habit ... rely on plenty of water, dietary fiber (veggies (especially beans) whole grains and fruit beginning with phase 1) whenever you can.

Smooth Move herbal tea for natural, gentle, rapid relief of constipation:

I have tried Smooth Move (so has my mother) and we agree that it is the best laxative for the problem. We especially like it because it was not created in a laboratory.
