I have been diagnoised with PCOS last month, and my Dr. told me that by loosing weight i would be able to control my symptoms more. So of course I have decided that this is a very important for me to us. I mean it is my health. I have been doing a lot of research and this diet looks better than others that I have seen. But my question is, is it really going to help my PCOS? Does anyone have PCOS and done this diet has it helped?? I have about 50 pounds that I would like to loose. Any info about the diet would be great.

Thanks

There's a new PCOS/Diabetes link that they're discovering, and the kinds of carbohydrates you eat do heavily figure into that. So not only can you lose weight on SB, you can also fix the whole insulin response issue.

I haven't been diagnosed with PCOS, but I was having a lot of those symptoms pre-SB. They've really straightened out with the change in diet as well as the weight loss.

There should be some other threads in here about this. I bet a quick look around should find them.

This is a really great plan!

I have PCOS. I found out June 2004 and my Dr suggested South Beach. I'm 5'2 and weighed 157. PCOS affects people in different ways. I had a common sympton .. my period .. or LACK OF! From Aug 2003-July 2004 I only had my period 4 times. I started SB in June and to date I've lost 28lbs. My periods have been regular for the last 3 months and I owe both to SB!!!

newbie101,
Look for the thread "Cysters" on this forum. Several of us have posted there, although it isn't very active.

I was diagnosed with PCOS in Spring of 2003. After one child, I'd let my weight seesaw back and forth. I was up to 187 at 5'8". I also had gestational diabetes. After my pregnancy, my cycle was totally messed up. It's was like they switched my plumbing you know! Very short cycles at first, 19 days. My dr. said as long as it wasn't shorter than 19 we wouldn't worry. I kept wondering why 18 would be worse than 19 days  Then I let my weight creep back up and my cycles got longer and then very erratic. I think that my symptoms were noticeable early and that I got an early diagnosis. I had been checking my blood sugar from time to time and suddenly it went higher. Not quite into borderline range but a big change for me. Blood pressure too.

After I was diagnosed, I read diet books and kind of played at trying Atkins. I could never do it wholeheartedly though -- it seemed so unhealthy. I got pregnant soon after I started to lose weight, but miscarried. I guess my hormones are still pretty screwed up. So losing weight did definitely help for me. I also tried Glucophage, but I couldn't tolerate it. During winter, I undid all of the good I had done watching my carbs.

So this time I'm trying SB and I've went from 187 to 168. My periods are regular now too. Only I'm not pregnant and I've about come to the conclusion that it's too late for me now.
