| Well...I used to be able to eat about anything and not feel its wrath. Now, I'm dealing with some massive acid reflux and have to cut down on tomatoes and spices. Anyone dealing with this? Any ideas for how to do this and still be beach-friendly? |

| Actually, a lot of us have seen an improvement in this area once on SB. Maybe it is a food allergy or some other issue that is revealing itself as you re-introduce foods? Not sure what to tell you. My consumption of TUMS has dropped to just about nil since I started this eating program. But maybe others have had a similar experience. We all do tend to react differently. |

That's great news! I'm looking forward to not needing Tums (since they're not sugar-free anyway).
Maybe it's just stress. |

I had such bad acid reflux I slept with my head elevated pretty much every night. I usually got sick every night. I hated it. I tried everything the doc suggested. I was at my wits end. I went to a GI doc and he said he could not find anything wrong there. So I was put on a prescripton antacid.
My roomie and I decided to change our eating habits. We have a couple of friends who are on the SBD and decided to do it too. Since starting the SBD I have had only one bad episode in 2 months. I love it. I can even eat tomatoes and tomatoe sauce. I can now sleep through the night without waking up and getting sick at 3 am. So not only am I losing weight, but my throat is starting to heal.
So hang in there if the reflux does not stop after a few weeks then check with a doc about it. Like redroxco said maybe it is a food alergy.
p.s. i like the monkey where did you get it? :)

Thanks for sharing your experience, Midcalf! It's great that you can eat tomatoes now. Isn't it nice to feel better? I have been feeling a lot better after two weeks of Nexium.
The monkey is my favorite! I don't know if I'm advertising here, but it's from a collection of clip art from Care2.com. You can pay for six month's worth of access. But all of the cute clips are available on e-cards if you'd like to send them for smiles! |

| this is just what i needed to see this morning. I started yesterday, Thursday. All went well, kinda. I was coughing, like a dry cough. Not a sick cough. It felt like phlem on my uvula. Sometimes I get this when I eat pizza, but I can't figure what it is. Didn't happen all the time. Any who... last night I also had that acid reflux, I could not sleep. I had to prop myself up on a couple of pillows also, till it felt like it would subside. so it wasn't me eh? The only think I had that I have never had before was the balsamic vinegar and these Metamucil wafers. Can you tell me what you ate that might be different then ususal and maybe that can help narrow down what your body didn't like. could be the same for me.. Will see how today goes. |

Thanks ttouch. I hope you're feeling better. I think I am. I'll try propping my head up when I sleep. That will help a lot.
I hope you can find the foods that are doing this to you! I'm pretty sure I can't eat chili or salsa right now. :( I'm looking forward to being able to eat them again.
My mom reminded me that this isn't permanent. Yeah!
Thanks for all of the advice! |

| will see how tonight goes. I did not eat the same things I had yesterday, maybe it was too much of a new thing or something I can't do (eat) tonght will tell and will report back tomorrow. It's yucky I tell ya, I never had this before, but I did have it enough to know what it is. So.. if it doesn't go away,.... I guess I sleep propped up for 2 weeks and hope the new stuff helps. |

| Juat had to let you know, last night 90% better. I was still coughing a bit but not as much as the first night. I think it was the salad dressing. I'll try not to have one today and survey again. But it feels so much better to sleep laying down again . lol. |

Mine has gotten way better since I stopped eating heavily processed carbs. The stomach acids have more substance to work on now. pre-cooked = predigested! Then the acids have nowhere to go but up.
The only times I have a problem now are when I eat too much and when I try to eat a dessert involving baked apples.
Cheryl, I would suspect the Metamucil wafers personally, for a couple of possible reasons. They're pretty processed, and that extra fiber may be pushing the acids up, especially if you're eating after using the wafers-- too much bulk in your stomach.
My sister who is a nurse said that Tums actually make you produce more acid, so you need even more Tums. Just something to think about. |

| I never had this before. I'ts not like I'm used to acid reflux. Only started Thursday and It's horrible. I can make it through a day without sweets but this coughing and sitting up sleeping, again, had to do it last night, stinks. I'm going to get some Zantac or whatever is out there to help me get throught these next 11 days. If I'm still feeling this aweful. I'll be done with this program. I have to sleep and I'm not going to be coughing all my life. It's very annoying. Like I'm doing right now  |

| Interesting topic. I had acid reflux, and am still taking nexium. I don't know if it was because of dropping weight, exercise, or what, but the acid reflux has totally disappeared. And I am into hot, spicy foods big time! I eat tomatoes every day, and am very heavy handed with the red hot sauce. I can eat right before bed with no problems.?????? Don't know the scientific answer. |
