I've been on the SB Diet for 1 1/2 weeks and have NOT lost one pound?
I am currently 80-100 lbs overweight and love carbs. I have completely given up all carbs and haven't lost one pound. My mother lost 10 lbs the first two weeks and my brother lost 14 lbs. I don't think I'll be loosing 8 lbs in the next few days as promised by this diet.
Any advice?

My advice would be to make sure you are drinking 8-10 glasses of water. If you are not exercising, add as little as 10-15 minutes per day, even weight training if you dont like aerobics. If that doesn't seem to help, you may need to add in one carb each day to kind of jump start your system. An apple, or a piece of grain bread or something.
Good Luck! Remember, everyone loses differently so dont get too discouraged. Check measurements too just to make sure you are not losing inches and just dont know it.

| First of all, you are the one who has to make the food plan work. This is not a diet but a permanent lifestyle change. You may be eating too much because in the end its all about calories, no matter how you do or don't count them. Check the size of your portions. Eat more veggies. The plan does not promise anything - it says you could. Do you exercise? Could you give us a day's menu and then we could help you better. |

Yes, I realize it is a permanent lifestyle, but I refuse to completely give up carbs for two weeks and not loose one lb. This isn't the lifestyle for me if this is the result. I'd do it and stick to it if I know there is a reward at the end. Yes I drink 8-8oz glasses a day. I've done the LA Weight loss and lost about 40 lbs (never having to completely give up carbs) and hit a major plateau for 12 weeks. Gave up.
Now I am trying this diet where my mother and brother have been successful. And yes, I am discourage and am ready to say, oh well, I guess I'll be 80 lbs overweight for the rest of my life.
I must say I am VERY hungry on this diet and wasn't so on LA Weight Loss. I woke up the last two nights at 2 a.m. with severe hunger pains. yesterday afternoon, I also had a severe headache. Lasted from 2:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
Typical Day...
Breakfast, 2 spinach quiches (per recipie), 2 slices canadian bacon
Snack: Low fat cheese and 5.5 oz tomato juice
Lunch: lettuce, cucumber, chicken in a salad
Snack: vanilla yogurt
Dinner: cottage cheese, 2 hard boiled eggs, grean beans (or other green vege) sugar free fudgcicle |

I dont think you are eating enough. If you dont eat enough your body thinks it is going to starve so it lowers your metabolism and tries to hold on to all of the fat cells. You should never be hungry on this diet. If I were you I would try adding some meat to my dinner to start with. So sorry that this doesn't seem to be working for you!
Good Luck, keep your chin up.

I agree. You don't seem to be taking in enough calories. Your body may be responding by lower your metabolism in response to a perceived sense of starvation. Check out the SBD book or official Web site and perhaps try following the menus there.
I know I'm repeating what the previous poster already said, but it does bear repeating.
(Also once you start up again with enough food, check on that vanilla yogurt and make sure that it is both fat free and sugar free.) |

Hang in there! I too had a very slow weight loss in the 1st week. During the second and third week I lost 7 lbs.
Words of encouragement -- we didn't gain all the weight in two weeks, be patient. Someone at this site said that to me and it really helped! |

I noticed a couple hints to what may be leads into what your problem is.
First, you are most definitely NOT eating enough. You're not just doing low carb, low fat, you're also doing low calorie -- heck, baby, uou're on a "crash" diet!!!!
This is a problem because your body is probably going into starvation mode and slowing your metabolism.
Second, you said you lost this weight before once and gained it back. This means your body is more adept than the average person at slowing down quickly at the first sign that it's being shorted of the calories it needs to keep your fat on. If you've lost it more than once and gained it back, you're body is an expert in slowing down the metabolism to make sure you DON'T lose weight.
My guess isn't that you aren't eating too much. You're eating too little. The whole way that the SBD works is that you eat good, healthy portions to trick your body into thinking it's not being starved, but change the composition of what youre eating so it's absorbed slower.
Your breakfast seems fine, and so do your lunch and snacks, as long as your lunch salad is nice and big with a good, hefty amount of chicken. Throw in some olives... I'd also suppliment your afternoon snack with something yummy and permitted.
Your dinner needs to go waaaaaayyyy up!!!! You need to add some lean meats -- chicken, fish, steak. Dump the hard-boiled eggs for dinner, add them to your snack. Replace with a chicken pizza packets, mushroom-crusted chateaubriand, or grilled fish. Add some grilled veggies, some of the surprise SBD mashed "potatoes," and a salad. Check the main website for this forum. There are lots of great recipes.
I think your problem may be due to the fact that you've flipped on your body's "conserve fat" switch and you have to eat enough to convince it that your are NOT starving. If you are hungry... EAT!!!!! That's the point!!!!! |

| I'd add some lean animal protein to your diet - grilled fish or chicken or ground turkey, perhaps. Also, make sure the vanilla yogurt doesn't have sugar in it -- I'd hate to see you compromise a good effort with a few bites of sugar. You shouldn't be waking up in the middle of the night. |
