Hi Volleyteach,
I just joined the board and was cruising around when I saw your question. Here's the answer:
Curves' plan is, from what I've seen, *identical* to SBD. Even down to naming the phases!
There might be one difference. Curves categorizes its first-time dieters into two segments: those who are addicted to carbs and need to go low-carb to break the habit; and those who are NOT addicted to carbs, who just need to drop their caloric intake. Basically, those two groups can eat different things in phase 1. The reduced-calorie group can have fruit and a few high-fiber carbs, but have to watch their calories; the reduced-carb group can't have fruit but can eat as much as they want off the foods list.
Since I haven't read the SBD book, I don't know if this is different in SBD.
I've done the Curves diet 1 1/2 times. the first time I was in the reduced-carb group. I lost interest quickly and Real Life got in the way. The second time I was in the reduced-calorie group (since I'd learned how to break the sugar habit) and stuck to it more closely, but I swear I knew more than the trainer did about nutrition. :( I might try it one more time, since I switched gym locations. It is nice to attend meetings and share the experience. |
