If you can find it, try Uncle Sam's cereal (maybe with some berries). It's very SB friendly and actually quite bland, so you might be able to keep it down. I had a bowl at 7:30 this morning, it's 10:30 now and I'm not hungry at all.

I'm still so early on, I'm not getting sick yet. Maybe I won't, wouldn't that be nice? I'm actually feeling very strange today. My fatigue is gone, except for at night time, but it's been replaced by this really weird tingly feeling. I've got that "butterflies-in-the-tummy" feeling, but all over my body. Like I'm electrically charged or something. It's kind of freaking me out

Morning all,
By my calculations I'm due mid June. I go to the dr's next wednesday so we'll see what he says. I've been getting headaches occassionally and some nausea (not really in the morning, more early afternoon and late evening). Already there are foods I can't look at - green beans, chicken, eggs and milk come to mind. Eating can be an adventure, that's for sure.
Does anyone know about using Splenda and other sugar subs when pregnant? I'm so paranoid but am nervous about adding back sugar to my diet.
Sounds like a lot of you already know about excersing and eating right with your pregnancy. This is my first and I'm hoping I don't gain back all the 36 lbs I've lost!

Congrats, Annmarie!!!!! I'm really nervous about artificial sweeteners. I just don't trust them at this point. I'm also afraid to gain back all the weight I've lost. I think I'm even more conscious about the numbers on the scale now. I think it is going to be hard for all of us that lost weight to see it come back on. Try to focus on the breakdown of weight gain. It's in a lot of books, and tells you what is baby, placenta, fluid, etc. With my first, I gained 35 pounds and 25 was gone almost instantly. (Baby accounted for 9lb, 5oz   )

Congrats to all! I think we are all worried about gaining again. Before I found out I was pregnant, my husband and I splurged a little...had pizza and ice cream. I gained 4 pounds. The next day I found out I was pregnant and I don't feel comfortable trying to lose it. Good advice Vickibean on focusing on the breakdown of what you "should" be gaining. I will definately keep it in mind.

Thanks for the advice on cereal too. Oatmeal makes it worse, hard to swollow. I will definately try it, I'm going shopping soon and I will pick some up. Right now I don't care if it's bland or not, just as long as it keeps me from getting sick. I'll be glad for the next month to be over so the sickness goes...hopefully.

I've read some things about limiting Aspertame and that it can affect things, increases some of the risks. Luckily I don't drink Diet Coke and don't use it. But I don't know about Splenda or some of the other sweeteners. I use Splenda all the time....haven't lately :) but before that, I did. I've had the same concerns. I see the Dr. on the 20th and was going to talk about it. If someone else finds out before then, please pass on the info.

Hi all,
I was also on SBD when I found out I was pregnant. This is my second, so I understand everybody's worries with gaining too much weight.
My two cents though is that is not worth the risk of having a baby with problems because of weight gain. So I will definetely not use any artificial sweeteners. I just try to avoid any drinks or food that requires purified sugar. A particular eye opener on splenad can be found at http://www.sweetpoison.com/
There are also some web pages that mention that if you don't get enough carbohydrates, we don't process the fat well enough, and baby's brain need a lot of fat.
I am planning though, on avoiding all the ice cream and peanut butter cups I ate the last time! I think as long as we eat healthy, all the weight gain will be for the good of the baby. I've gained 35 lbs in my last pregnancy, after baby came out I still had 15 lbs extra. The beggining was hard, but onece the baby was over 6 months, she was the best diet for me... Breastfeeding made me loose more than 15lbs! So even if we gain some it should be ok...

Thanks for the input, Lua. I guess that we all need to keep in perspective that the health of or baby is dependent on our weight gain. I was reading my journal from my first pregnancy and found that, by the 4th month, I had only gained 5 pounds. Our weight gain should start out slow according to the charts I've seen. I think our hungry days are yet to come.

(shoveling in another piece of SF gum) I think there are so many hidden sweeteners that we don't even think about, we should definitely avoid the obvious ones (diet soda).

So far I'm still slowly loosing. My reasoning is that my body is working really hard at creating a new human, so that's got to be burning some calories right? Not that I want to be loosing weight right now, don't get me wrong, it just seems that I can't really help it at the moment. I'm only 6 weeks, so I'm sure the weight gain will set in in a month or two. I'm not so worried about gaining weight as much as I am worried about gaining unhealthy weight. I figure, baby needs fat to grow a brain, so why not give it good fat like salmon, avocados and nuts rather than chocolate cake and icecream? Well we'll just see how well that holds up 6 months from now

It is so nice hearing that everyone is thinking along the same line. Unfortunately, I've already gained  It's either eating to keep from getting sick or getting sick. So I've already gained 2-3 pounds in the last month. I had the same thing happen with my first though. I am just trying to stay away from sweets. Back2Normal is right. I'm trying to continue eating good fat and good carb, but no matter what, with the increase in calories...weight gain.

I find myself actually voluntarily drinking milk. :? I even had some when we went out for dinner. No sickness here, though. I'm starting to feel unusually hungry all the time. Better cut this short. It's time for my second potty break in 20 minutes.

Ah yes, those wonderful potty breaks. I forgot how annoying those were, especially when it's every couple of hours in the middle of the night. I don't drink hardly any caffeine at all, but I like to have a cup or two of green tea. I found it after I had my first. Anyone know if this is okay?

I'd ask your doctor about the tea. I've read that there is a type of tea that is used to cause miscarriages. I'm really no tea expert, though.

I'm 6 weeks, today. I've gained 3 pounds, but 2 came in 1 day last week. They cannot be permanent. Hopefully, just water. I also am measuring my waist and belly. I've actually lost 1/2 inch in my belly. :?

It's weird, the scale says that I'm down in weight, but all my pants are getting tight around the waist. Almost to the point of being uncomfortable. I'm only 6 weeks, so I don't even want to buy maternity clothes yet, but I am worried that if my pants are too tight that it will hurt the baby. Is that completely irrational?

Mon Oct 11, 2004 3:44 pm

Vickibean

I wouldn't be too concerned about tight pants hurting the baby. The baby is protected in the amniotic sac. It's getting pressure from your skin, organs, etc. I started charting my weight, waist and belly measurements. I also thought my clothes were getting tight in the waist. I realized, though, that my waist was not expanding. It was all in my head.

DH bought me a maternity outfit for my birthday. The pants look ridiculous. They're super baggy in the back, and the pockets stick out. Maybe they'll look better when I fill them out a little more. He means well, though.

Did everybody get their flu shots? I just got mine. We have a clinic here at work and they snuck me in after all the blue hairs.

I'm scheduled to get one here at work. It's nice not to have to go anywhere to get it done. It sounds to me as if we are due about the same time. I'm 7 weeks. :)
