Has anyone tried Dr. Phil's diet?

I tried. Bought all the books, but the psycobabble sank me! I just do not have the time to analyze everything I do. I took a really good look at him and you know what? He is fat!

For some reason, and it may very well be the reason given by colliegirl, I have mixed feelings about Dr. Phil and his diet.

i've read a bit of it.
Its just like his TV shows, he talks about WHY ppl over-eat and its mostly emotional eating. then he gives his lecture about how u can improve yourself like your self-esteem/confidence so that u dont turn to food as your friend.
all that is common sense.

just like his shows.
"dr. phil, we're bored with our relationship"
his response: "go on a vacation!"

Yea hubby came home with his book. I kinda flipped out on him and asked why he thought dr phils diet was a good one. So I just have it on my book shelf with NO plans on doing or reading it. Dr phil is not exactly a role model for his diet!

Please don't take this the wrong way, but you've just posted two posts in a row asking about the Cambridge Diet (all liquids and no "real" food) and Dr. Phil's diet which I admit I don't know anything about, but Dr. Phil isn't a nutritionist or a medical doctor, he just has a doctorate in pyschology.

Is there a reason you keep looking for these kinds of "solutions"? Why are you posting this on an SBD forum, which most of us embrace wholeheartedly as a long term solution and healthy way of eating that is sustainable and nutritionally healthy, but you seem to want to do something else? Have you seen a nutritionist? A medical doctor? What do they recommend for you?? There are no quick fixes or easy answers to getting your weight under control. It takes a lifestyle change and you seem to be looking for a "magic bullet" that doesn't exist.

What about SBD doesn't appeal to you or doesn't work for you? Have you tried it? Are you just looking for someone to sanction your desire to try every known diet until you run out of diets? What's really going on here, cuz ya got me mystified!

I think it is mean to say Dr. Phil is fat. He doens't give this diet and say "ok now you need to be 110 lbs." He wants you to be the best weight for you and your age, gender, etc. Basically to become healthy. He exercises everyday and eats well. That's more than can be said for a lot of people. Funny how we are still calling people fat when we know how hurtful and disrespectful that is.

I think Dr. Phil's diet is sound and healthy. He includes moderate amounts of good fats, whole grains, lean protein and lots of fruits and veggies. Sound familiar?

No Dr Phil isn't a nutritionist or MD. However, it isn't just the physical for a LOT of people. The psycho babble behind it can actually help people understand why they eat the way they do, and how to control it. While it may be common sense, obviously people need to be TOLD what is going on before they can understand themselves.

And remember, Dr. A didn't write the recipes for his book so his book is basically him saying why certain things are bad and why some are good, along with body chemistry. The rest of the book is the work of a nutritionist. Dr. Phil might not have went through medical school but he has a good grasp of human behavior and the way we behave towards food is half the battle.

I think it could be a very helpful book ( I have only read through some of it) and I think we shouldnt' just deny the help we might get because "dr. phil is fat"

Dr A was not a nutritionist either. I read that in the first few pages of his book. He was a cardiologist.

Dr. Phil giving diet advice is like Hitler giving advice on loving your fellow man.

I read the book and it has really helped me determine why I overeat. Yes, it gets a little wordy in alot of places, but I needed help with the emotional eating part. I really didn't buy his book in order to get a food plan or some revolutionary new formula for weight loss. I read it so I could try to find some insight as to why I turn to food for comfort and why it's so much more comforting for me to eat than to take a walk, write in a journal, etc. I am just contemplating beginning the SBD, so I am not comparing the food plans. I am simply commenting on the state of mind (and heart) that I got help with after reading his book. For me personally, I can't do anything about my weight problem until I am ready emotionally. Now that I have worked on that part, I am preparing to begin with the food/nutrition part of a weight management plan.

I think Dr. Phil is exceptional with family problems, marriage problems, etc., and if you are a person who overeats because of stress, he could help, otherwise the plan is very time consuming because of the self-analysis.

Hi all, I am new here as a poster.
I just want to chime in for a moment.
At the beginning of December 2003 I began Dr. Phil's Ultimate Weight Loss Challenge.
I only bought the Food Guide and religiously watched the UWLC shows. I followed the plan and adapted it to my needs and food likes based on the choices available.
During the course of the challenge, I was losing weight and never deprived myself. I learned so much, and found out what my body needed and didn't need. I learned what good and bad foods did to me, and how my system reacted to them. (Boy was that ever a lesson! )
I enjoy Dr. Phil and his UWLC program so much, and found it to be a blessing for me.
I began the UWLC at 218 pounds - I am 5'11" - and a size 16. I was unhappy with myself and to look at myself in the mirror made me want to gag.
I had been healthier and thin before, and I finally made up my mind I was ready to be that way again - this was my life and I was ready to take it back!
I am done losing weight and I so enjoy my new found figure, and happiness.
The UWLC was never a "diet" to me and I was/am proud to say that to anyone. I reduced my calorie, fat, sodium, and carb intake. I stopped drinking full calorie sodas and no longer eat at my old favorite restaurant - Whataburger.
I have learned portion control, and the best thing - how to live life and never deprive myself.
This is my new life and my new way of eating - I LOVE BEING HAPPY AND HEALTHY!!!!!!

My current and proud weight is 148 pounds - and I now wear a size 4! :D
I stopped losing weight at the beginning of November 2004, and find it very easy to maintain my weight. If I think I might be tempted, I have a heart-to-heart with myself, and I keep myself on track.

*On a side note, I have been lurking on this board for about 4 months now. I originally found this forum while searching for new recipes that fit my lifestyle. I am thrilled I found this forum and all the recipes and stories are wonderful.

Thanks for reading and allowing me to be here!
