I have been on the SBD now for a week and everything is going great! I think I am getting a yeast infection and I was wondering if it was the cause of the diet. I bought the OTC medication so hopefully that will work. Hope someone can help me

Actually SBD should help ward off a yeast infection, not cause it, i.e., no sugar or yeast in P1.

There is a very inexpensive remedy for yeast infections, especially in those early stages when you can just feel it starting up. Vinegar and water douche. Yeast thrives in an alkaline (base) environment, and by altering the chemistry by shocking it back (vinegar being the acid), the yeast dies off. According to "The Doctors Book of Home Remedies" (Rodale) "Vinegar has approximately the same acidity as the vagina...."

Interesting additional info from the same book: "People with diabetes, who are more prone to yeast infections, should monitor their blood sugars. Also, excessive lactose in dairy products and artificial sweeteners increase the likelihood of yeast infections."

Back to the vinegar.......it really does work! I haven't bought an OTC preparation in 20 years.

Vinegar may work well 'down there', but I find if I consume too much vinegar, it kicks up a yeast infection, I have to limit my vinegar intake to less than a tsp. a day.

Really? Are you sure it's not causing a bacterial infection? I don't know what your sugar intalk is like. I do know you need sugar in your diet to cause a yeast infection. Unless you have a condition that predisposes your system to have chronic infections.

Do you take a lot of antibiotics? If you do or have in the past, it might be worth it to start a pro-biotic regimen.

When I was in my early 20's my system was so tempermental. I would swing between bacterial to yeast infections monthly. Yes, what a treat it was. I had been on a lot of antibiotics growning up for chronic sinus infections. After taking pro-biotics for 6 months, I was able to stop the cycle.

Thanks for your input, Melissa, but according to all the books on yeast infections, vinegar is on the 'avoid' list for the condition, along with sugar and fruit. I eat no sugar since being on SBD, not even is salad dressings. I only eat one serving of fruit a day, very low GI fruit. I've been dealing with this problem for 22 years. I've only taken antibiotics 3 times in 22 years, and I've done many rounds of probiotics, which don't help me. I get my best results from homeopathic remedies. I also eat no bread, and no dairy, so in my case, it is not diet related any more, just the malfunctioning of my body (I have MCS, Multiple Chemical Sensitivities and severe food allergies, so I am an extreme case, lucky me!)
Thanks, again,
Burdle

Well I guess if I had to pick vinegar over a yeast infection, I guess the vinegar would have to go. That really sucks.

I love my rice vinegar. I would hate to have to say good bye to it.

I figured after reading all your great recipes that you didn't use sugar.

Thanks Melissa, and yes, it really does suck. I love white balsamic vinegar, and was having some really strange symptoms, like cracks around my nostrils that would bleed, and nose bleeds. Once I cut back on the vinegars, they went away. This was not a yeast reaction, I just can't handle the acidity of the vinegars. I can use a little, about 1/2 tsp. a day or less, so I'm very, very careful about vinegar.
I call myself a Food Detective, I'm always trying to figure out which food is causing which symptom. I've found SBD to be very helpful, it unmasked a few hidden food allergies for me, like wheat. I used to practically live on whole wheat bread, now I eat no bread at all, and am vegan because of my lack of digestion for animal protein.
Thank goodness for beans, or I would never have been able to be On The Beach.
Hugs,
Burdle

For my yeast infections I use a douche with 3/4 of plain yorgurt and the rest warm water. The Dr told me about this and much cheaper than any OTC and works like a charm.
