Anyone read Tom Venuto's Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle?

I just finished the book this weekend. The nutrition part of it is in much agreement with South Beach, phase 2 and 3. He discusses the GI, insulin, etc. He never mentions South Beach, but criticizes several other diets for being out of balance, like Atkins. He talks about how there is no one-size-fits-all for diets, and you need to find what works for you, then discusses how to tailor the right macro ratios for yourself. Of course, this program is more of a fitness program, whereas SBD does not emphasize exercise, so there are some big differences there. All-in-all, I think the two programs are pretty compatible. This week, I will be incorporating some of the BFFM aspects into my SBD plan. Anyone else tried this?

This program has helped me tremendously. I recommend it to everyone who wants to lose bodyfat without any muscle loss.

Nothing to add as I haven't tried it. But FYI, The Body for Life Challenge was started by Bill Phillips, former Mr. Teen Colorado, in 1997 who had bought the EAS nutrtional sports supplement a few years before. Today's Rocky Mountian News reports that EAS was just sold to Abbott Laboratories of Chicago, IL for approx. $320 M.

Musclemar, you wouldn't happen to be one of Tom Venuto's paid affiliates by any chance, would you?

I'm in the process of reading Venuto's book (again) - I think much of the advice is right on. He has great insight and solid recommendations. It's a good read, though technical - I highly recommend it!

I have just finished my 6th week on BFFM. Here are my results so far:

Waist: -3cm (1.1")
Hips: -7.5cm (2.9")
Scale weight: -0.8kg (1.7lbs)
Bodyfat%: -2.4%
Bodyfat in kilos/pounds: -1.6kg (3.5lbs)
Lean Body Mass: +0.7kg (1.5lbs)

I'm very happy with these results, as I have only about 10 pounds or so to lose, so can't expect dramatic results. Plus - no offence intended to anyone - I wasn't really making any progress on the Beach.

Rather than incorporating the BFFM principles into SBD like Lisa0825, I'm doing it the other way around - incorporating SBD principles into BFFM. So I'm doing a low-GI version of BFFM.

BFFM is an integrated diet/exercise/goal-setting program with an emphasis on weights. Diet-wise, it's broadly similar to the SBD in that it relies on eating small, frequent meals to rev up your metabolism and keep your blood sugar levels stable. The major difference - and the key to the program - is that you manipulate your macronutrient ratios and cycle your calories and carbohydrates, rather than eating the same number of calories every day. In other words, you not only have to count your calories, but your grams of carbs, protein and fat as well!

I would strongly recommend BFFM for anyone who, like me, has only a little weight/fat to lose. But be warned - it's not for the faint-hearted!

Just in case anyone's curious, here's a pic of Tom Venuto at 3.4% bodyfat. It seems to be working for him!

Peggy - BFFM is an e-book. You can download it for $US39 from burnthefat.com

If you register you also get a lot of other stuff for free as well as a monthly and a weekly newsletter. It's very good value for money.

I just discovered this e-book and purchased yesterday, and am having trouble putting it down. I love how he incorporates NLP and strategic goal setting into his program. I'm only on page 50 and look forward to digesting the rest. I just put in an order for some body fat callipers and body measuring tape. If I want serious results I need to take serious action, right? This is very exciting for me and I look forward to sharing my results with the board.

I downloaded this book, however, it was WAY too much information and seemed almost complicated when i was reading it.

I know he has good stuff, and I still get the emails and stuff, but I like SBD so far.

I think I have tried every diet under the sun!! :o
