I didn't plan well and ended up eating a Slim Fast meal replacement bar for lunch. I'm sure the sugar in it was terrible for me. The total carbs were 20 g. Is that a lot of carbs for a day/one meal?

i dont think 20grams are terrible in a day....If I eat something and its not 0 I keep it under 20...and that really is from atkins..I did atkins this past summer..and their first phase was 20grams of carbs....so thats what I basically do...I think I've gotten both of them combined...somehow..sounds like I need to read the book again lol

You don't really have to count carbs. If the carbs were from sugar alcohols or fiber, don't count them. Just think about every time you have one small cup of pasta (even wheat), you are eating about 50 carbs. I eat pasta a lot, and have still lost 77 pounds in 5 months.

Eating a Slim Fast is OK on the NBD in your case, since it is an occasional occurence.

Some of the Slim Fast bars are loaded with sugar and some aren't. If you're going to have to do this occasionally, at least choose one that has the least amount of sugar (or none) in it.

SB really cares more about the quality of the carbohydrates than the quantity. 1 oz of dried apricots (about 5 or 6) runs about 25-28 gms of carbohydrates that come mostly from sugar but also pack a pretty powerful nutritional punch and have a lot of fiber and are fairly mid-level in GI, so they are considered fine as a fruit source in P2. The same amount of grams of carbohydrates from a high GI source with little nutritional content (like white bread), is considered a no-no.
