The results of my blood tests are in and my total chloresterol has dropped from 6.81 to 6.07, in spite of being very slack about taking my Omega oils.

Started SB the last week of May.

Congrats! That looks like about an 11% reduction from here!! I know other countries measure differently than the US, so for many here, those numbers may not mean much. I found this scale for South Africa, so maybe these guidelines are similar to your recommended levels as well?

Total cholesterol less than or equal to 5 mmol/L
LDL Cholesterol less than or equal to 3 mmol/L
HDL Cholesterol greater than or equal to 1.2 mmol/L
Triglycerides less than or equal to 1.5 mmol/L

I think US measurements are something like milligrams per Decaliter or something like that and the "magic" number for total cholesterol is less than or equal to 200 here. So if it is a simple linear multiplier that would put you at about 240 on the US scale, but that is making a lot of assumptions that I am not sure are valid.

How are the breakdowns of HDL, LDL and triglycerides doing? I noticed my triglycerides improved the most on SBD, my HDL went up a bit and unfortunately me LDLs went up too. But that was only after a month and I haven't had it rechecked yet. Keep up the good work!!

Thanks for the info from So. Africa. My doctor is from there and this is the scale he uses. Don't know if all Canadian doctors use the same scale or not.

11% makes me very happy; I had not thought of it in that perspective!

I don't have the breakdown by LDL/HDL, but will get those numbers when I get the results of one more test that we are waiting on.

Well I wasn't looking for a scale based in South Africa! It just happened to be the first one I found that related to the numbers you had posted since they are very different than most of US folks are used to. I'd assume that Canada uses it universally as does probably most of the rest of the world. We tend to measure things "differently" here!

I just did the 11% thing because I was just trying to find a way to make it a bit more meaningful since the raw scores didn't mean anything to me.

Good luck with the rest of your results and hopefully you can take down a bit further as well over time. If the linear multiplier is accurate, in US terms you started at just over 270 and have lowered it to 240. But also important is the relative composition in terms of what makes up the total number. FYI, Total Cholesterol is calculated as the HDL value + the LDL value + 20% of the triglcerides value

If HDL is good cholesterol and a high HDL is considered a negative risk factor, why is it added to LDL and 20% of T in order to calculate total cholesterol? Seems to me that one could easily be below the cap on LDL and T, have high HDL and have total cholesterol well in excess of 200.
