Stephanie --

I don't know how much choice you have in the matter, but I'd suggest you find yourself another doctor who will listen to your symptoms and try to work with you to correct them, and maybe order some more in-depth tests. In the meantime, I would suggest that you NOT stay on Phase 1 -- that's bound to make you more tired. I also think you should be adding in more whole grains -- fruit is a good carb, but also a "simple" carb, and the sugar in fruit gets absorbed rather quickly, causing a spike/crash in blood sugar, which can cause extreme tiredness. Do you eat a protein with your fruit? That might help.

Try a day or two on full P2, with two whole grain servings and maybe 2 fruit servings, and lots of protein. See if you don't feel better after that. If not, I'd urge you to see your doctor right away (or try to see a new one).

One other thought -- could you be pregnant? I know you have PCOS, but one of the reasons some women go on SBD is to get pregnant while battling PCOS. Just a thought.

Hey Sue! fancey meeting you in another thread LOL

Well I doubt that I'm pregnant. I mean I have not lost enough weight to make a difference. When I do eat things like fruit I do eat it with a protein. I find that it helps me feel full longer.

I would love to see a new doctor but where I live in a small town (about 3000 people) my choices are very limited. In fact the doctor I’m seeing is new to the area and that’s the only reason I managed to get in to see him. Before that I could only see a nurse practitioner that felt she could not do a great job for me. Basically all she could do was write prescriptions. Other doctors here are not taking any new patients. I have called them all and have been on waiting lists. Most of their lists are hundreds of people long. I guess finding doctors interested in coming to a small place like this is difficult. So far my new doctor has listened to me…he even told me about South beach so maybe he isn’t so bad? LOL I’m used to having to fight with my doctors and maybe I will have to step it up a notch with him. If I nag him enough he might be willing to run more in-depth tests like you suggested.

As for not staying on phase one…well it was during phase two that I had the real difficult time with being tired. Right now I have been feeling a bit better. Not 100% but better none the less. I didn’t add back any grains when I did phase two. The reason I didn’t is because I can’t get the special breads around here, pastas, or cereals. My menu choices are very limited but I try and do what I can with what I’ve got! Mostly I reintroduced fruit a couple of times a day. I was adding back carbs slowly because I wanted to be careful not to add back too much and end up gaining. At this point I’m willing to try anything to get rid of these tired feelings!

Thank you very much for your suggestions. I will let you know how things go with the doctor…I do have an appointment with a specialist on the 22nd. Maybe I will start by mentioning it to him and get his take on it. Maybe he would refer me to an endocrinologist. Or at least talk to one to figure out what tests to run.

Good morning to you both.

Thanks for the information about the new thyroid guidelines in the USA. I think this is such a new area for doctors to be studying that we'll be hearing some pretty startling things about this pesky little gland in the future. About time too.

Hope you will both find out what is causing the sleepy symptom. I'm still so new on the SB that I won't know for several weeks if this will also develop in me.

Being healthy takes time and energy, that's for sure.

My best to all the "little ones!"
