They gave me three days, but I felt like crap for about a week. The surgery is really easy to recover from. I HAD to have the surgery b/c I was having attacks even after eating dry toast. OMG they are so bad they are worse than having a baby! If you are having an attack, you'll know it. Very high fat foods set off the attack. I had my first attack after having a frozen fettucini alfredo dinner. I have not eaten one since  Kind of ruined it for me! Hope this helps!

Thanks mommy2three. I went to the doctor today and it is my gallbladder. My GP referred me to a surgeon. I'll be seeing him next week. You are so right. This really hurts, and I normally have a high tolerance to pain. Thanks for the info about recover time. That doesn't sound to bad.

onesunshinerider, I have irritable bowel syndrome for quite a few years now. It progressively got worse since the surgery, to the point that I am on medication for it. The good news is since being on SBD, I have been able to go from 2 to 1 pill a day and sometimes I feel as if the 1 pill needs to go.

It does have a lot to do with genetics, my doc said the same. I, nor my 2 sisters, was not pregnant when we had problems. I've never even been pregnant, so I wouldn't think that was a direct link, in my case atleast.

TriciaBelle, I know how you feel. During my attacks I thought, "This is it. Take me now." The pain was unbearable and nothing helped at all. The sugery for this has changed drastically over the years. I was in the hospital for a week, but I'm not sure why. My sisters had their sugeries about 3-5 months after I did, and they were outpatients. Maybe because mine were so severe or even the fact that I was still on my parent's insurance. Regardless, discuss it with your doctor and hopefully, you will not have to have surgery. If you do, don't worry about it. If you are put completely under as I was, then you will probably hurt for a few days. Mainly because they lay you in the T-shape and that always makes my muscles ache. If you can, try to schedule it on a Friday, that way you have all weekend to recover. I did that with my last surgery and it worked out really good.

I hope that you found out some good news. Take care.

seems like that might be a better question for your doctor, no?

good luck with the surgery. do they know yet whether they can do it arthroscopically? My Dad just had his removed and it went pretty smoothly that way. I'm sure at your age, you'll bounce back even more quickly!

I know this is an old thread but since it popped up, a couple of things

1. I suspect we will see increasingly large numbers of young people having gallbladder disease because of the poor fatty diet.

2. Red, can you PLEASE change the header to gallbladder??!!

pretty please for the OCD nurse...............
