I have just finished a taper and discontinued prednisone 80 mg after nearly four months. It really messed up my glucose levels, with levels going high as 500 in the hospital. I had bacterial meningitis and came very close to death and was on a variety of meds including home IV antiobiotics for six weeks. It was rough.
Since the taper and discontinuance of steroids, I am averaging 90-130 glucose levels, checking 3-5 times throughout the day, while on insulin. I am hoping to return to oral diabetic medication on my next doctor visit.
I am glad to find this board. I started the SB diet then became ill and had to discontinue it for a while. I lost weight, then put on steroid weight, now am coming down again. I am presently at 160 at 5 feet 8 inches on a small frame (still retaining steroid weight gain a little).
I hope to get started back on the SB diet soon and get my glucoses under greater control without insulin.
Good luck to everyone trying to balance their glucose and food levels. |

Hi CarraM,
Welcome back to the South Beach Diet after your illness caused you to have to discontinue being on the beach. It sounds like you have had a very, very difficult time. It is good that you are now ready and able to finally come back to this forum for people on the South Beach Diet.
I am also a type 2 diabetic who has been on the SBD and this forum for about a month now. There are also many other diabetics on this Health and Medical Issues subforum.
Please join other diabetics on the following thread:
DIABETICS ON THE BEACH
A new thread will be started each week to keep it from becoming too long.
Take care ... wishing you the very best of luck with your goal of getting off insulin and back on to oral medication only. :D |
