cool, yeah this forum really does help all those niggling questions in my head!
so for the last five days ive had one peice of fruit....is it ok that today i had the hlf cup of oats (the recommended kind) instead of the fruit? If i stick with the oats for a week that should give me a good idea as to how they effect me right?
:D questions questions!!

| Well if that one piece of fruit didn't cause you to be hungry or cause any cravings, and you feel good about it... then just go ahead and add the oats in ADDITION to the fruit - you can (and should) have both in the same day - I just wouldn't eat them together early on. And this way, you will still be able to recognize how you do with the oats (also add some protein along side the oats - an egg or something). |

I had my first piece of whole wheat bread today. With some roasted chicken and tomatoes. It was amaaaazing. Delicious. Whoo!
Also some fruit at the farmer's market (a few bites worth) that were underwhelming, but I'm leaving it at that. |

I just wanted to post my gratitude for those who started, contributed to, and maintained this thread, and comment on how lucky I feel to have found it. Here's what it did for me:
I had been following the basic principles of SBD on and off for a while -- with great results when I was "on" and predictably unfortunate ones when I was "off." In early August, hit the off in a big way, gained back about eight pounds in three weeks, felt terrible both physically and mentally. Regrouped, got out my SBD books, and figured I'd rein things way back into P1 and get myself back to the gym. And being an extremist by nature, I then began to toy with the idea of staying in P1 for a month or so, or even until I hit my goal weight about 20-25 lbs from here. "Why not," I figured, "just stay in P1 for the foreseeable future and maybe lose the weight a little faster?"
Happily, on my fourth day back in P1 and just when I was seriously considering the above madness, I stumbled across this site and this thread. Fascinated, I read the entire thing straight through, then began following links to other places where the topic of transitioning from P1 to P2 is discussed. Thanks to the diligent posts of many of the experienced members here (and thanks especially to PhD2B's constant reiteration that P1 is NOT the weight-loss phase), I am now truly convinced that prolonged severe restriction is NOT the way to go, and that the real *fat loss* occurs in P2. I've gone from "I think I'll stay in P1 until I'm down to my goal weight" -- certainly doomed to whopping failure -- to "You know, I wasn't off-track for all that long, I've lost the water weight this week, my cravings are gone, and I've been hitting the gym pretty hard, so I really need those good carbs -- so I think I'll begin P2 now, start integrating the healthy carbs back in, and get on with the real fat loss part of the program."
This is a *huge* turn-around for me, and I know it would not have happened had I not had access to all the insight and instruction provided here.
So, just a post to say thanks. I shall certainly continue to lurk and read and learn on these boards, and perhaps even chirp up occasionally myself.
(Certainly it's odd to see my old screen-name next to a post -- I haven't posted to a discussion board since Buffy the Vampire Slayer went off the air three years ago!)

P.S. Sorry for the long-ass post! Not like you needed my entire life story, was it? |

| I have been languishing in diet hell for years now, and have faithfully followed Phase 1 for almost two weeks. Which feels like a miracle. I've lost a total of 7 pounds, and could not be happier. But I am terrified to enter Phase 2. Thank you everyone, for sharing your hopes and fears about Phase 2. I start Phase 2 on Monday, and will probably spend many more hours as part of this community. |

| I start p2 on Monday as well. I'm a bit nervous, but glad, at the same time. I don't really feel as though I've made a huge impact during p1, and I certainly wasn't perfect. But from everything I've read going to p2 is the best, p1 isn't healthy for very long. Plus think of all the healthy grains and fruits you get to add back in. I'm just trying to do like I did before starting p1 and shopping, reading and getting prepared in advance. |
