I don't think you "screwed yourself", although there are probably better choices out there. If you really like it, I'd just have it a little less frequently or mix it in with an "approved" cold cereal so you get some of the flavor of it that you like along with something a bit more SBD friendly. My DW tends to mix in Purely Os (an organic Cheerios-like cereal), which doesn't have the added sugars, but are kind of light in the fiber department with Uncle Sam's which has more fiber. It makes it more palatable for her. Or you can just give it to hubby! I really think this program is fairly forgiving of the occasional treat. As long as you can keep the treats from multiplying into something that becomes a regular item, you should be OK. Also on the positive side is that you are now reading the labels and looking at them in detail to find things like the "sneaky" HFCS !! (high fructose corn syrup) So that's a good thing too!
A big part of the transition to P2 is learning along the way. We often learn more from our mistakes than our successes. And I guarantee you that we've all made them!! Keep up the good work!! |

| After reading this it helped a lot as far as not being afraid to move on. Although I am kind of disappointed that I can't eat apples (am allergic too) but I am sure I can find other fruits to fill that empty spot. Thanks all! |

I think it was adding the grains that spiked my cravings. I really didn't add any fruit when entering P2. I too was VERY scared of entering this stage. I added whole grain bread and then I found myself sliding off track. Before I knew it I was eating a candy here and there and then wanting potato chips, which I am ashamed to say  allowed myself to eat. I spiraled and went completely off the diet. Now I am back on P1 trying to regain (or not) what I have done.
It was hard deciding what to add back into my diet. I had been SO GOOD on P1 and I was really proud of myself. But it was like taking that first step all over again. I feel I failed and now I'm back to the beginning. I don't mind, I just know now that I won't be so concerned with adding grains. I'll add a piece of fruit now.
Does anyone recommend a good fruit to add? I've heard apples.
Thanks all for the support.

I, too am starting P2 on Mon & a little nervous. I am feeling pretty comfortable with P1 & my scale is down 6 lbs after 8 days!!! My questions is how do you know if you are having cravings after adding back certain carbs? I am not really tempted to eat the chips & stuff now, but I think that's b/c I'm still motivated. When I get the urge to eat the bad stuff, how do I know if it's a "carb induced craving", or just a slip in my motivation.
Raygunclan - I agree, the book isn't very clear on how much or what to eat. This website is much more helpful. I didn't know that you had to have 1/2 c. veggies at breakfast & at least 2 cups at lunch & dinner until I read it on this website. The book just states salad w/dressing. That has been a great help. Having trouble getting 1/2 c. in the morning. Trying to add veggies to my eggs. Haven't developed a taste for tomato/V8 juice yet. |

I gave up on trying to put veggies in my eggs and stuff. For some reason, when the eggs started tasting bad (because I was sick of them) so did the veggies. I just started cutting up a quarter of a tomato or green pepper and ate it on the side with breakfast. It took so much pressure off to not have to incorporate it in some fancy cooking method or something. Just pick your favorite veggie and eat it on the side. Even in P2, this is what I do.... |

GEEZ! do you know where on the site you found that info, or was it just in random reading. i find TONS of stuff that way and always wish i remembered where it was b/c i only remember 1/2 of it, and it is usually the wrong half!!!

| I am in the same boat as you all in starting Ph 2 and being scared to do so. I was actually supposed to start today but I didnt have anything in the house for Ph 2. Guess I will be heading to the grocery store soon. I am kind of bummed about the fruit because I seem to be allergic to peaches, apples, & cherries. Although, if I cook the apples, say in oatmeal, then I am fine. Perhaps it's some sort chemical they spray on fruit or something? It's kind of frustrating to have a reaction to a fresh fruit but not when it's canned or boiled?! Can we have any canned fruit or does it have too much sugar? Anyways, this is going to be a learning experience for me :D |

What a great thread-this is actually my 1st post. I have been lurking here for at least a week.
I have read the entire SBD book and the SBD cookbook-very interesting but this board is amazing! Thanks to everyone who takes the time to answer questions, post ther questions/answers and most of all new recipes!!!
I just finished my 1st week on P1 and am pleased to report that I lost 6.4 pounds!!! I do plan to do P1 for 3 weeks because so far so good. And I promise I will add P2 approved foods back very slowly. I also hope to spend more time on my treadmill!
I am an avid scrapbooker and cannot wait to do an album all about me-the new me!!!
