Hi, Good Luck in P2
My 2 cents--take it really really slow and don't go by the guidelines in the book for a while anyway (gradually add up to 2-3 servings of fruit and ww bread)
I just started week 5 (week 3 of P2) and limit myself to one serving of
fruit daily, and on the weekend half a ww bagel with ff Philly. Down 15 lbs. :D
Also, this forum is great--99% of the chatters are helpful! The receipe for
zuchinni lasagna is awesome. (Never ate the veggie before)

This thread has me thinking that I might start Phase 2 on Tuesday (on schedule). I am reluctant since I haven't lost THAT much on Phase One.
I'm going to read Phase 2 of the book tonight and ponder it more. |

Now I realize that I should (and want to) move on to P2 tomorrow, on schedule, and one of the main reasons I feel motivated to do so is b/c I really want to start exercising. Thanks so much to everybody who contributed their personal experiences and feelings here! I'm looking forward to some whole wheat tomorrow, a brisk walk, and more weight to come off!
Hi Caterpillar,
I'm new to the beach and I'm still on my P1. But I just wanted to see how ur doing on P2? |

i'm on my third week of south beach. i just didn't want to start eating bread/fruit because if there was even the slightest chance i'd gain the weight back, i didn't want to do it! but for the first time in three weeks... i did it!
i had 2/3 cup kashi good friends for breakfast, and i just finished this absolutely scrumptious yellow glowing lovely heavenly apple. i haven't had any cravings at all! and the kashi good friends is so great! good luck everyone. it's hard to get over the NO BREAD NO FRUIT mentality but really, it's okay! they are good for you now that you've unpoisoned your body of all the cravings!
best of luck to all. |

Hi i_mkittycat. Oh, I'm so sorry! I totally forgot to get back to you!
To be completely honest, I screwed up on P2, but I learned some very valuable lessons. I am currently on P1 again (I think today is my 2nd or 3rd full day), and I feel totally in control again and back to normal.
I had several weekends in a row of going out of town, two baby showers, and three birthday parties, and I just let myself return to my previous behavior. I felt crummy - stomach problems, feeling "heavy", cravings, weight gain, and total discouragement. I was under a lot of stress, and I stopped taking the time to cook for myself (that's what really got me).
But I'm so happy to discover that it wasn't all over for me; that I can be successful and not let occasional splurges send me down a slippery slope.
Thanks for asking, and I'm sorry I didn't have better news to report! When I start P2 again (probably in just a few days), I'll keep you posted. |

I read this thread with great nodding and understanding, I started into phase 2 this morning, after two weeks on phase 1. I made some Baked Oatmeal last night for the occassion. So I had my pre-determind slice of that with a small glass of milk for breakfast. I feel very satisfied and actually very glad that phase 1 is completed, as I missed grain and fruit. But I will only have this oatmeal dish or whole grain granula and milk for breakfast for a week or so to see how it affects me.
I think for me it was important to understand that carbohydrates are not our enemy, in fact they are vital to our good health. This food plan is rapidly teaching me the difference between a good and bad carb, something I did not completely understand before. So in my normal black and white approach to things, I have to step into the grey area and know that yes, some carbs are very good for me to eat. It is vital to give up those mashed potatoes, candy bars and pastries, but not so good to give up the whole grains, fruit and yes sweet potatoes. You know, I can throw the baby out with the bath water sometimes.
Staying in phase 1 is living in fear, of carbs. You can control what you eat and the success of this way of eating for the rest of your life is learning that control, not living in fear of one group of food. Sorry if I sound preachy, this post is really for me  |

It's great to hear success stories about starting P2! :)
I too started reluctantly, but ended up losing the most weight in the first week of P2 than I had in all three weeks!! Yay!!
I started by adding in cereal three times during that week and one night of (heavenly) popcorn! Came out of this week 4 pounds lighter!!! :)
I think some fruit is definately in order next week! |

In another forum, we often post a certain thread when people express fear about moving on to phase 2, or think they will continue to lose weight rapidly in phase 1.
Basically, most people seemed to stop losing weight during the second week of phase 1, and then resumed weight loss with phase 2.
Note this link goes to a different South Beach forum, so don't get lost!

Hi all, I have just found this website and it is great to know there is so much support out there, I thought I was doing this alone (especially since some friends had a bad experience with Adkins and are now very concerned for me trying this).
Caterpillar, I am right there with you. I was really successful with phase 1, and on my first official day of phase two I left home to go on a 10 day house hunting trip. You can imagine with the stress and eating out, that things got added in a little too quickly, and I have stalled if not added a little extra lbs back. I tried to make smart choices, but there were times it was a little harder to turn down that slice of sourdough bread at the resaurant (my ultimate downfall) Have I totally screwed up how my body looks at food and is now going to only store everything because it doesn't know what to expect?
Is it better if I go back to phase 1 for two weeks again, or should I just do a very downscale version of phase 2? What will get me on the right track the quickest?
This question is off topic, but I am not really familiar with any of the cereals besides oatmeal it says is OK, does anyone know of more common cereals that are ok? |

i was wondering the same thing about the cereal. with atkin's, everything was cut and dry, COUNT YOUR CARBS. but SBD is much more complicated! someone mentioned kashi good day cereal. can you add splenda? how about granolas? and what about portion control? in the book it says not to worry how much you eat (at least how far i am in the book. HEY! give me a break! its my first day! ) but i can eat my weight in, well, just about anything! i had 2 v8s today. good? bad? im sure i'll figger it out! but i would love any direction on the cereal thing! i just don't have time for omelets!!! |

Whoever bumped this thread up from seclusion...thank you. I just posted in another thread today (I think it was today??? GG, all the days are running together now) about how terrified I am to start P2. I went three weeks on P1 and was supposed to start yesterday but was so scared...I am going to the grocery store tonight to pick up some blueberries for tonight and cereal for tomorrow!!! yay!
It's so energizing to hear all the good experiences on P2. |

| today was my last day of P1 and at first i thought im gonna stay on P1 until friday thats because my SB cookbook should be in the mailbox by then. but i went shopping today and bought a couple of things for P2. so i decided to start P2 tomorrow with 1 slice of german pumpernickelbread toppped with a little bit of mustard and low fat ham and 1 boiled egg. im gonna do this for 1 week and see how my body reacts to it. so dont be afraid we are all in the same boat. |

Today's my last day on P1 too...I am a little nervous. I've sort of gotten myself into a routine. Then again, the thought of an apple with peanut butter on it almost makes me swoon.
I'm gonna start P2 tomorrow, right on schedule...but I can't lie about feeling nervous. I've had pretty decent results on p1 (I changed scales, so let's say about 7 pounds)...and I certainly don't expect THAT to continue...but I'm just watching & waiting to see what future cravings are... |
