I think I have found the source of my late night cravings. Because I want to remain as active as possible and because I have major osteoarthritis in my back, I take 500 mg of naporxen (commerically known as Aleve) twice a day. I usually the first one a little after breakfast and the second about 9:00 PM. Now that I am on SBD, I am more atuned to hunger cravings. I noticed that I get that empty, hunger craving about 15 minutes after taking the second pill. I moved taking the second pill to right after supper and that strange, empty, hunger craving has not reappeared. Go figure....

Good for you for getting analytical about your cravings. That usually works! Keep up the good work!

I thought naproxen was better taken with food anyway. But that was more for upset stomachs on an empty stomach. Kinda weird that that might be it. You might want to check with your pharmacist and see if he/she might have any addtional info on this kind of reaction. But as LyndaB said, the good thing is that hopefully you found a trigger and can make an easy adjustment to curtail it's effects. Good sleuthing!!

Some drugs that cause upset stomach could indeed be upsetting your stomach, however, your brain misinterprets the signals. Biaxin (antibiotic) for example can cause stomach upset, but for me it makes me feel like I'm hungry, even though I just ate a full meal.
Good for you for recognizing and taking action to counter it! |

:( NSAIDS are known to cause weight gain. That's non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. I was given bextra for the same thing: osteoarthritis of the spine. And it caused weight gain. I don't take it just for that reason, though I never really analyzed it. I guess i should. I just stay in pain all the time. Phooie!
