I have been on SBD for 3 weeks . I am still on phase 1 . Does anyone know about Protein Shakes? I have just recently started having one as a snack at 3:00 - hunger time & it has been a great help. It is called "To Diet For:. with Whey & Soy Prtein, No Sugar, No Fat , And only 1 g. of Cards per serving. Would like to know if anyone else drinks protien shakes on Phase 1 or 2 . WHich ones have you tried?

Though Dr. A doesn't mention them in the book, I don't see why low-carb protein shakes wouldn't be allowed. I plan on reintroducing them at a later phase (just 3 days into phase 1!). If you're going to use protein shakes regularly, I highly recommend investing in an Hamilton Beach milkshake/malt type drink mixer! It totally changes the texture and makes protein shakes seem more creamy!

I drink Atkins protein shakes. They have 1 net carb and are made with soy protein. Have been drinking them long before I started the SBD. I even drank them and ate the low carb bars through phase one. It did not affect my weight loss at all and was really easy too.

I am about to finish week 9 and have lost almost 20 pounds. Only 25 more to go!! :D

Mspinkglo: Can we take protein shakes in Phase 1?
Protein shakes alone can be dangerous. If they are taken to supplement good vegetables, salads, and good oils, they should be fine.

This is an excerpt from a chat with Dr. Agatson, so Protein shakes should be okay. I wanted to make a "mock bread" using soy protein isolate and flax meal, so this gives me the go ahead for phase one. Hope this helps everyone!

I've been drinking protein shakes almost every morning. But I haven't weighed myself yet. But really, I was told they are fine. Just make sure to read the ingredients.

Actually, SB really frowns on any kind of shakes and bars. They want you to get your foods from all natural sources. Not a bunch of chemicals. I belong to SB online and the nutritionist gets this question time and again and she always tells them that they are not SB friendly and you should stay away from them.

There's more at issue here than whether or not you lose weight. You can lose weight on anything--all cabbage, all grapefruit, all peanut butter, etc. That doesn't mean it's going to be good for your longterm health.

If we really want to learn from our country's food mistakes and be healthy, we need to go back to the whole foods that people ate before all this processing started. They ate real foods in balanced meals.
