| I take L-Lysine tablets everyday to prevent canker and mouth sores. They can be found in the vitamin aisle. They seem to work, as I am (knock on wood) not getting those pesky canker sores anymore! :) |

I've never heard of black chick peas...
I would avoid both foods if the lysine doesn't work...

none of the nurses or dr could figuer it out. the peditrician told me to try high dose of vitamin C. it worked. |

If you've been brushing your teeth more often, this can cause mouth sores as well. The sudsy agent in tooth paste is harsh and can irritate. I haven't been able to find any toothpaste without it. Taking Lysine does seem to help though.
The chemical is Lauryl Sulfate, and is the same stuff you find in soaps that makes them foam. |

| Are you eating a lot of tomatoes? Too much acid usually produces mouth sores. Cut down on acidic foods. I hope you get better soon. |

| Does anybody know if you can take L-Lysine while breastfeeding? Also, how much vitamin C should you take? I heard too much at one time doesn't do any better than the recommended amount...but what if I took it in the AM and in the PM? |

Canker Sores
Recurrent canker sores afflict about 20 percent of the
general population. The medical term for the sores is aphthous
stomatitis.
Canker sores are usually found on the movable parts of the
mouth such as the tongue or the inside linings of the lips and
cheeks. They begin as small oval or round reddish swellings,
which usually burst within a day. The ruptured sores are
covered by a thin white or yellow membrane and edged by a red
halo. Generally, they heal within 2 weeks. Canker sores range
in size from an eighth of an inch wide in mild cases to more
than an inch wide in severe cases. Severe canker sores may
leave scars. Fever is rare, and the sores are rarely associated
with other diseases. Usually a person will have only one or a
few canker sores at a time.

| OMG, I get CHRONIC canker sores, but luckily, haven't had any since I've started on the beach. I'll have to try this lysine stuff if I get them again. I've done ENDLESS research on prevention and treatment of the little suckers and pretty much it's always the same thing - it's either stress or a reaction to something you've eaten. If you try what people recommend and none of it works, you may just consider not eating the foods that aggravate them and consider yourself lucky for being able to pinpoint it - I never have been able to!!! |
