What do I do? Any recomendations of SBD friendly comfort food? I've been on SBD for 5 weeks, lost 22 lbs, and I don't want to screw it up by eating Matzo Ball soup - but this cold is beating me bad. What can I do? HELP!

why not chicken broth? you can make Csoup without the noodles...I've had that a couple times (with the premade, I just don't eat the noodles)

I'm a firm believer than when you're sick, you need *comfort food*. That, a good book or DVD, a box of kleenex, a bottle of aspirin, a comfy sofa or bed and your favorite pj's.

I was feeling ill a few weeks ago and gave into the cravings for SF cookies. I would say to be as careful as you possibly can, after all, it's not the food that's going to cure the cold. It's time...

I did gain a few lbs back over my illness, but I did eat some comfort food. Then I got back on track and lost those lbs plus.

Try to not completely cave... and get lots of sleep. Hope you feel better.

Also, what kind of cold/flu medicines can you take?? Most of the cough syrups have sugar to sweeten them. Caffiene is in most of the cold tablets and in some cold syrups too. And there are the alcohols that some have (NiQuil) which help put you to sleep so you can get some rest. Anyone know of some that are SBD-friendly?

so, I decided a girl's gotta do.... Ate my chicken noodle soup, and an english muffin, took the medicine even though it had sugar, etc - tried to do my best - but it is hard to feel like you are getting better without orange juice and noodle soup.. I gained 3 lbs it seems, so I will be back on Phase 1 next week...Thanks for your advice!

Zicam, Zicam,Zicam! I can't say enough about it! It's available everywhere now, although it started out only in health stores or homeopathic doctors' offices, I think. It's zinc, and the deal is, you start using it as soon as you feel you've been exposed to a cold (or as soon as you notice the first symptoms). I can't remember the specifics, but zinc apparently "hogs" all the spots that the virus would usually use to multiply, thus causing the virus to die off. It's amazing! No icky side effects (I hate the way cold medicines make me feel so spaced out), and it will either prevent the virus from getting a hold at all, or it lessens the symptoms/shortens the duration *dramatically*. Amazing stuff -- I should buy stock.

Caterpillar, I TOTALLY agree, but it has to be the nasal spray, not the lozenges - not sure, but I think they have sugar in them. I've been using Zicam for about 4 years now and HAVE NOT HAD A FULL-BLOWN COLD SINCE! (Not to mention the fact that the 1st 2 of those years I worked as an paraprofessional in an elementary school! Learned after my 1st year there - and 2 colds - how to protect myself!)

You have to start using it just as soon as you feel any possible symptoms - a little nasal discharge, scratchy throat, that "fuzzy" feeling in the head right before the cold starts.

I also use Echinacea and vit. C. Goldenseal is also highly effective for sore throats. Ech. & Gold. can be found in teas now, so you can pretty much decide how you prefer taking them.

Home-made chicken soup is always best (lots of garlic and why not ww noodles or brown rice), but I'll bet you can find it ready-made with those things in the natural foods aisle of your grocery store or a health food store. What I've always done in the past is after having a roasted chicken (or turkey) is throw the carcass in the crockpot with water to cover it and cook it overnight on low. Next morning, let it cool, strain it, then put in fridge to skim the fat when it congeals. Then I just put it in doubled zipper bags (or T'ware) and freeze it for a later date. Don't know how this would work on SB, but certainly as long as it's been skimmed thoroughly it shouldn't be so bad? Anyway, when you need to have soup and feel like ****, thaw, throw in garlic, celery, onion, and whatever else your recipe calls for, and simmer for a few hours to get the veggies softened. What the heck, it's really the garlic that makes you better anyway!

I checked the label on the Zicam lozenges......definitely NOT SB friendly (contain sugar, maltodextrin, AND partially hydrog. cottonseed oil). Stick with the nasal spray......
