| I was just recently diagnosed with it and was wondering if anyone else on the SB has it and if the diet has affected it in any way. I have to cut out all the artificial sweetners and any acidic foods. |

I've had it on and off for 35 years. SBD doesn't seem to help, but it doesn't hurt, either. I keep a bottle of Trader Joe's unsweetened cranberry juice in the fridge, and if I feel the 'urge' starting, I drink 1 ounce in 6 ounces of water. It contains 100% pasteurized cranberry juice. One ounce has less than 2 g. carbs, and less than 1 g. sugars in it. Always seems to work for me. Since you have a medical problem, I don't think it would hurt to drink this once a day on P1, unless it causes cravings.
Don't forget to drink lots of water.
I started SBD on P2 because I am vegan and have food allergies...

The urologist recommended Elmiron but i've decided not to take that and just stick to the lots of water thing, the pain is not that bad anyways.
Hey Burdle, it seems like we tend to have the same health problems! :)
You're always there for me lol whether it be a bean question or a health one. |

Sweet Tooth-
Glad to know I'm not alone... I don't have interstitial cystitis per se, but I have its younger sibling, urethral syndrome. I am 29 now and was diagnosed at age 25. I had my first bacterial UTI when I was 18 and my body went into alert mode after that. I kept getting "fake infections", with no bacteria present but all the painful symptoms.
Anyway, I took Norpramin for a while, then I went abroad for a year and had to stop taking it. Didn't go back on it since my return but definitely always need to drink a lot of water. I also avoid bubble baths, anything that can cause irritation.
I have had one real bacterial infection since my diagnosis, but the rest is all irritation, non-bacterial symptoms. Someone told me that when she feel UTI painful signals, she takes goldenseal (sold as capsules at health food stores). I was skeptical, but it works for me too. Not sure if it's a placebo effect, but... I can't drink cranberry juice, it usually irritates me more. Coffee and alcohol are ok but only if followed by water.

Thanks Anita! Makes me feel better knowing that there are more of us out there. I was skeptical about the drug the doctor prescribed so I asked around and people said I should just drink alot of water, thats what Im gonna try. I also have UTI symptoms but no bacteria or infection, just the pain.
I'll look into the goldenseal when I have severe pain, sometimes its tough because I have 3 hour classes and I cant go to the washroom every 5 minutes. |

I'm not on meds, but I've had the condition on and off for 35 years. Now that I'm on SBD, when I feel just a little twinge coming on, I drink a little unsweetened cranberry juice that I buy at Trader Joe's. It is horrible straight up, but I dilute 1 ounce of cranberry juice in 6 ounces of water or diet 7-Up, and it tastes just fine. On P2, I consider this a fruit serving for the day, even tho it is only 1 ounce and a serving according to the label is 8 ounces with 14 gr. carbs, so I'm only taking in 1.75 gr. carbs in 1 ounce. It works for me every time.
